Godley Glacier and MacCauley Hut
Godley Glacier and MacCauley Hut
Am planning a trip on the 5 & 6 march to the Godley Glacier, spending the night at either Red Stag Hut or at MacCualey Hut. If we stay at Red Stag you will need tents. You will need high clearance as there will be a considerable amount of rock hopping to be done . Will probably need a snorkel fitted to cross the MacCauley, maybe not if river is low enough. Winches will be essential as you can't snatch off of rocks. Tirfors will be fine, I have a heavy duty one. Rated tow points also required. I haven't done this trip before but have been told it can range from a walk in the park to outright difficult depending on the weather .

Gees Bill, isn't there anything you don't break And I thought I was bad when it comes to breaking things I reckon it will take you about three hours to get to Tekapo. We can all meet there. As for the cost, fuel, food and piss my friend is all it will cost you, unless you wish to pay me a comission
Trucks so far:
Me, Alisdair, Rob and Tim, you.

Well diff's fixed, have two new tyres on her.... (and soon will have two spares as they have only done about 5000k's )
Just need to sort a winch.... have to see if I can borrow that Tirfor again...
Oh and I've been told it can be very easy....
Anyone know where I can get hold of a decent compressor?
Then all I have to do is straighten the exhaust

I think we have enough winches guys. I have my heavy duty tirfor, Alisdair has his PTO, Rob has his Warn so I think we are covered in this area. Hope it isn't too easy Bill, otherwise there is no point in going. I won't be able to get down to Tekapo until friday evening, may plan to stay in the campground there. They have some huts with bunks in them. If we all want to meet down there on the friday night, I can go ahead and book some accomodation. That way we can leave early on the saturday morning, head up to the glacier and then head to MacCauley hut for the night. What do peolpe reckon.

Sounds like a good trip being organised here. There is an 90% chance you can count me in.
Just have to drain water from ashley out of the diffs, fit a snorkel, fix steering relay, remove running boards, remove last set of scratches and find a passenger (maybe get the injectors done to fix black smoke)

have taken half the rear bumper off and the plastic bits... once I work out what I'm going to do with the exhaust, i'll build a new bumper and cut the corners off. They will need welding though as they are hollow.
Oh btw, the Central 4wd club went did the Godley valley and Macaulay Valley a couple of weeks ago and the tracks were hard to keep to and hard going. Also they couldn't cross the river upto the Glacier.

Al, any ideas roof rack wise... on or off????
should be sweet with racks - can be bumpy trip. it's 17km up the river bed from the macaulay crossing at lilybank to the macaulay hut - just make sure it's bolted down real good.
my truck is now back up and running - my r)cv joint bearing cage collapsed and dropped the bearings everywhere ---> new cv. hopefully my new BFG's will give a lot more bite than my old bald hankooks and a little bit more clearance (3'1x10.5x15's to 32x11.5x15's), with at least 10mm more tread too...
i can't wait. whats the plans to date...... anyone?[/img]

Gidday Guys,
yes Bill you have the right motor camp and as for your roof rack: is it Bill proof???? Rob did this trip the other weekend and said it was quite easy. If river is up that will be our only problem. For those that live in CHCH, I may have a detour for us to explore that will bring us out at Geraldine, but it will cost $20 per truck, what do you all think: keen?
Alsada, are you going to book some accomodation or are you going to book a camp site and set up the shaggin' wagon! I wont be getting in to camp until about 9pm. I have union meetings all day and the hadbrake doesn't finish work until 4:30pm, will be on the road at the lastest:6pm.
