Re: 12 volt compressor
I got myself a Terrain Tamer one, it is quite big and does the job well on my 35's.
Re: 12 volt compressor
Was that the typhoon model Nis-man.
Re: 12 volt compressor
I wouldn't waste my time with any of the electric ones on tyres above 33". Convert the a/c pump or put another one on. To do a 35" tyre you need (imo) to have a reserve of stored air so it has had some time to cool down, and if you are going to have a tank why not use a compressor that can fill it effectively?

Re: 12 volt compressor
Depends what you want.
If you want to pump up 35s from 10psi to 40psi in a minute or 2 then you really need a descent compressor, regardless of whether a tank is used or not (because the compressor will be going pretty much full time while pumping up the tyres). There is limited choices, ARB twin motor, Boss http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=4283 or Extremeaire http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=4188.
For something truely portable you want this http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=4130 or the Magnum version http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=4307.
The other end of the scale is spending 30 minutes pumping the tyres up with a cheapy http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductDetails.aspx?productID=573

Re: 12 volt compressor
Thanks for the info guys,I didn't realise top of the the line compressors were so expensive, may look at a dive bottle or I'll be calling 4WDbits.
Re: 12 volt compressor
For a top end ARB (twin motor & compressor ) youll be looking at about $900 plus tank cost, manifold & installing it ....but they are real good ....you get what ya pay for !!!
Re: 12 volt compressor
As a comparison, I just bought an elcheapo 95ltr compressor from Supercheap. Stripped off the 240v motor and air compressor, hooked up the wiring to the feed for the aircon compressor and fitted air line and high temp hose in between as required.
Compressor $145
Misc bits $150
Can run air tools and sorts out my 40" tyres from 5psi to 30psi (although I have not timed it, estimate about 1.5 - 2 mins a tyre).

Re: 12 volt compressor
Yeah rok I know air con pumps go hard but I want to keep my air con and if I could fit any thing else around the motor I would.
Re: 12 volt compressor
Hi Klompy
Mine just has Terrain Tamer on it, I have not had an issue with it, from memory it was on special for approx $250.00. It has a maxium 150 psi and does 160L/min.
It takes a little while but not too long, normally just pump up my 35's while I am havn a chat with the lads. It is definetly quicker than the smaller options.

Re: 12 volt compressor
I have just got around to installing my arb twin motor compressor. They are rated to roughly 170 lpm free flow which is more than any other 12v compressor on the market. Haven't got around to pumping up tyres yet but when I do I will let you guys know. They run rattle guns happily. Only 700 from Pete Munroe in chch. Would have liked an sanden on york but I don't have enough room under the bonnet as I am not getting rid of my ac.
