^yeah that link you posted is the one I used as reference
Will check everything again,I'm thinking that the module I brought doesn't see the speed signal
I got quoted $500 drive in drive out from Robinsons instruments but reading jaycar speedometer correction online manual thought would be easy starting to think should I've just paid these guys to do it

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
$240AUD I think for the Marks Adapter Electrical Box, there are a couple of different ways the electronic ones work, reading the manual, looks like it can detect multiple signal types, but you have to keep changing the settings until it works. You could ask them what type of sensor the different settings are designed for

Someone else had the same issue, so I would guess the Jaycar kit doesnt work with the cruiser:

Calibration time. This is all in the instructions, but I'll post it up anyway as theres a few hints along the way.
1) make sure all your connections are in place (I forgot the plug on the gearbox as I had removed it earlier - I got to step 5 before I relised )
2) Set S1 switch to 2
3) Set S2 to A
4) Install LK2
5) Go for a quick drive - the speedo will not work as the corrector is now working out what type signal its getting
6) Once the speedo has set itself the led will start to flash.
7) Set S2 to 0
Set S1 to 0
9) Install LK3 - you shouldnt have to goto LK4 or LK5 - Go for a drive to make sure the speedo works (if not change to LK4 or 5, but that shouldnt be needed)
10) To slow the speedo down all you do now is set S1 and S2 to the required correction percentage. S1 will set in 1% increments where as S2 will add 10% increments. It is possible to change the speedo by up to 99%.
11) However I wanted to slow the speedo down so with the power to the corrector box on set S2 to F and wait for the LED to flash twice. Then set S2 back to the required position (0 for me)
12)I dont have GPS so I've just changed mine by the % difference in tyre sizes I got of the internet. This is equal to 5.4% at the speedo - so I just set S1 switch to 5.

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
That's basically what instructions say on jaycar unit I pretty much memorized those steps from doing it about 10 times
Manual says led should start flashing and if not try next setting and so on
On 2 of the setting over drive light started flashing
I'm gona try again tonight and if it doesn't work I.will throw.it it the rubbish where it belongs

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Had a day during the weekend to finish some things up on the cruiser
Cert fail sheet:
Extend bumpstops-done
Rear reflectors-done
Wheel arch flares-done
Rear mud flaps-done
Exhaust to loud-done
Wheel alignment printout to check castor-done
Brake proportion valve to be extended to improve rear brake performance-done
Speedo to be calibrated-fail
So I had another go at jaycar speedo calibration
Rechecked all my wiring and I have a signal going to the calibration box
Did all the different options still no go so in the bin it went, must be made in a sweat shop in Shanghai
I did speak to robinson instruments in onehunga a while ago and they can sort it
Bit over it and running out of time for recheck so going to pay the experts so can get this cert sorted and go wheeling
Took for bit of a drive was interesting with 4 flat spots on the tyres from sitting so long took about 10min to come right
Doesn't sound as cool either with the muffler turbo spool out the back isn't as loud, will look at getting muffler removable so can put bit of straight pipe back in for in between wofs

Hi Mate, if you want me to make you up a stick-on speedo face just to get the cert let me know what it currently reads @100km/h actual, post up a pic of the current one from as square on as possible & PM me your email addy. Print it out & stick it on with double sided tape. As you say, not a long term solution due to RUC but it will get you legal.
Cheers

I have 2.5" from flexi into a coby under drivers floor and exiting in front of back wheel.
I still don't think its loud enough
Mate is currently driving around with his exiting the flexi almost sounds right

Yeah ideally I want it with no muffler it was a bit raspy up in the revs but that's what I like about inline 6 engines
My mates got a 4inch off turbo straight through out the back it sound about right
Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Robinson sorted my speedo today
They had couple of options
Ratio box or electronic like jaycar option
Went for electronic so can adjust it for different tyres etc in future
My wiring was sweet because they reused it all so I'd did save some money on installation.
There electronic recalibrated is $180 if anybody is considering doing this
Will ring cert man tomorrow for re check

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Found some near new 35x 12.5x17s muds on 17x10 d windows for a good price
Will use these for away trips so don't wreck the trepadors doing ks on tarmac
Went for my cert re check still have to extend bumpstops another 50mm but all good on everything else.
Done rear today and do front tomorrow then email some pics through to cert man then it's a pass
Should be all legal 2 weeks

Looks good matey.
I'm wanting to redesign my sliders and have them currently running flat along the sills with 50x50 box and braced back to the chassis. Can you show me yours how yours sit near / against the sill and avoid the seam?
Cheers

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Saturday had cruiser booked in to have cert plate fitted wof and reg
Been 18 months since buying it 12 months was target time so only 6 months over which ain't too bad
Took for shake down today at woodhill went really well only issue was winch solenoid failed
Apart from that stoked as with how such a big heavy pig gets around
Really happy with the control of the wagon with 5.29 gearing
Had rear wheels slide into a wash out and rear upper part of exo hit a tree, handled it no problem
Awesome to be getting some seat time again!
Got my first pin strip and little dent aswell

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Got ice buster trip coming up so started getting few things sorted on Sunday.
Fix my winch and brought a new wireless remote setup
Didn't realise how handy wireless remotes are till I lost my last one
New dyneema rope
Added a pre filter to snorkel head
Fresh anti freeze
New 35inch spare tyre
And went over all suspension etc make sure nothing came loose
One of the swivel hubs has slight leak but apart from that wagons ready to rock.

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
80 has a few trips under its belt now
Been typically reliable(Toyota)no issues
Few minor hiccups
Had a o ring on air line leak front locker 2min fix,top shock bush buggered out and leaky tyre
Just done oils filters and trans service
Drain diffs to check oil for any nasties
Went to woodhill night run on the weekend gave it bit of shit went well
Exo got a hammering but came out on top
Sold 35s I had, once your felt the grip of treps on low pressure normal mud tyres are stink.
Have decided to buy a decent in cab uhf, handheld is good till there hills and heaps of trees then it's shit.
Other than that it just staying on top of maintance and enjoying getting out there!

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Took Thursday Friday and Monday off work last week and headed north to mate bach
Did a bit of fishing then we went for a 2 night camp at ninety mile
Did a lot of exploring and found some cool places
Real happy with the 80
Got my mates young fella to give it the once over when we got back
I've brought a boost controller so next thing will be upping the boost to about 15psi and maybe fiddle with the pump.
Main aim is to get it boosting bit earlier

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Installed boost tap on the 80
Have set it at 15psi,the over boost dash light does come on for first 1000rpm then goes out
I notice it has more top end power but down low is only slightly better.
Egts have come down bout 90 degrees
Have done a bit of research on the pump and there good for a bit of power, there is a couple of adjustments to help bring on the boost earlier so will give it a tweak see what happens..
Latter on down the track I will do a turbo up grade and intercooler but at the moment I happy with bit more power and it's still reasonable on diesel for a tank.
Picture less up date so here one from far north
Found some soft sand but 2psi made it easy

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Last outing I bent outer lip on 2 rims from caning it up a hill and hitting the bank with big routes sticking out
So tyres were going flat over a few days from bead not sealing, dropped them off to get repaired
Been setting it up bit better for camping was going to get a roof tent but there to expensive for what they are and probably damage it where I'm going
Ended up going with a awning with 2 sides and I'll put a swag under it.
Also been starting to collect stuff for kitchen setup and researching solar power so can run a fridge and lights when camping.
Trying to keep it simple and lightweight, want quick setup most camping will be overnight then move on.
Truck itself is still running mint and it's nearly done half million ks that why I rock cruisers

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Nice truck. I tweaked the boost in mine by placing 4.9mm spacers under the waste gate actuator to give 15psi and wound the fuel up. It goes way better now... be careful not to over fuel it though as it can get expensive.

I've decided to do the smart but boring thing and hold off on the extra fuel bigger turbo etc
Will jazz up the auto first so can handle it
It's diffently not painful to drive as it is
All thats stopping me is funds
Got a few camping mission lined up over xmas can't wait!

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Bit of a update since last post
Have done a couple of camping trips and woodhill few times
Was going to head south island but have realised I need better camping set up,so am working on that now.
Cage is holding up well roof sliders work good too
Have had to adjust up a front wheel bearing and need to change a tie rod end which ain't bad considering where it's been and 37s
Next mission looking at heading down to pureora soon with few mates for a weekend
Couple pics from last few months

Re: hdj81 cruiser build
Oh man photobucket isn't showing my pics
Me and my mate are taking our 80s down to ice busters again this weekend
Also I've started on making a camping trailer to pull behind the 80 so when I sus out a different image host will start adding pics
It sits level behind my Hundy but I'm going to have to lift it alot to sit level behind the 80
Going to bin the standard trailer springs and axle then put some ute leaf spring(soa) stronger axle and 6 stud
Then add 2 ute boxes roof tent 12v power
Once I get trailer finished I'm going to explore the south island
