The Navaro

Post by ChurchurDan »

I have 2 terranos a d21 and an R50, the R50 is the wifes car and the D21 was our spare car that wasnt getting used. I thought about selling it and buying a ute but a navara is worth about twice what a terrano is for a 4wd. So I brought a navara cab on friday picked it up today and have swapped it onto the terrano chassis.
The cab is a single cab and was on a 4wd ute that got drowned. These nissans are easier than lego and so far everything has swapped over. And I mean everything as I only brought the BARE cab, it didnt even have a heater or carpet.
The terrano was in one piece on saturday morning, and the cab was hanging from my shed roof at 3.30 this arvo. If we didnt have visitors I would probably have it finished.

So it all just bolts together then? Nobody believes me when I say they fit together like leggo. Do the body mounts all line up mint? Easiest bum chop in the world.
Cheers
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

Yeah it went straight on and used the terrano mounts and bolts. The navara chassis mounts are about 50mm higher on the chassis but every thing clears fine.

So if the body mounts are higher and they fit together does that mean a factory body lift is possible?

No the rubber mounts are the same but the brackets that are part of the navara chassis are higher. So a navara is a factory body lift. It fits fine on the terrano chassis and the only give away when fitting is the rubber splash guards between the inner guard and chassis are too long.

Anyway it is almost finished just need to sort a handbrake as they are a bit different and put some temporary rear lights on and it will be back on the road. Then I will start building a deck and think about painting it. :)

So if you fit a terrano on a navara chassis it would sit higher - interesting.

Nice job too.

just guessing here but i would say you would need custom mounts as the navara wont have rear body mounts?

The front 6 mounts would work but it would get a bit pear shaped for the back 4 as a navara has mounts for a deck not a body and you would also downgrade to buggy springs. A body lift would be a lot less work.

It is done for now. I will be getting some bigger mud tyres when funds allow, looking at 265 75 16's. The spare wheel is under the deck and I made the space big enough for the larger tyres.
The only problem is it is a bit bouncy in the back, I might look into some progressive coils so it rides a bit nicer empty but can also take a bit of weight and some new rear shocks. The terrano bodies are really ass heavy. I will weigh it soon to find out how much lighter it really is.

How will it go with insurance/reg man when it comes time, given it is still registered as a terrano?
