Re: Hilux Surf Engine swap. 1kz to 5L motor?
I decided to keep the KZ motor. In the past three weeks I was removing and striping the engine part by part. I found out my last mechanic was a crock or he just doesn't know what he is doing. I found 2 problems as I stripped the engine. 1. The heavy smock must have been coming from the turbo charger ...

Re: Hilux Surf Engine swap. 1kz to 5L motor?
Thanks guys for this insight on the KZ motor. It does have power and makes your adrenalin rise on take offs. So my last mechanic is a crook. I paid this guy over US$3000 to rebuild this KZ motor but still had problems. I'll take it to my local genuine Toyota dealer for a diagnostic. They might ...

Re: Hilux Surf Engine swap. 1kz to 5L motor?
Thanks guys. The thing is I got the head done recently because it was blowing air into the cooling system and bringing out lots of smoke at the rear. At first the smoke came out on start but would go after getting the motor worm or on high rpm. Eventually the smoke got worse to the point it was ...

Hilux Surf Engine swap. 1kz to 5L motor?
1994 Surf ssr-x auto
Am having lots of problems with my 1kz motor and I'm now thinking of swapping it with a 5L diesel motor. Heard it is very dependable.
Has anyone done this before or can it be done?
Does the 5L motor fit in without modifications required?
Ideas please..

1kz-te Head Gasket water holes
Hi all. Can someone please tell me why the head gasket comes with only 3 holes for water circulation. Is this not what caused it to overheat? Looking at the engine block and head I can clearly see that there are 8 holes. Is this the design or are we supposed to punch in the holes our selves with ...

Re: 1KZ-TE - Switched from electric to manual diesel pump
Have read a couple of forums about the solenoids and how they work. So I have a project on the way now. 3 solenoids are in the box. 2 are for changing the gears and the 3rd one for engaging overdrive. I just have to figure out which is which and how to manually pass the electric current to it ...

It has an automatic transmition. The problem is now it does not engage into overdrive or fourth gear anymore. Are the wires from the pump connected to the gearbox somehow through the ECU?
