Should I replace my toyota surf?

Considering purchasing another 4wd. I currently own a standard 1994 Toytota Surf, has done 170km but been scratched and banged up a bit (being used as a mobile kennel did not help). The tire tread is getting worn and is showing a little rust and I also need to install a tow-bar which would cost ...

Shelfs or Drawers for Surf?

I want to a shelf/drawer setup in the boot of my hilux surf. Is there any affordable commercial products available? If not I would build my own basic one, I done a quick search of the forum and seen a few impressive designs. Mainly after a few ideas and useful hints to make the job easier. Was ...

Re: Which lasts longer Diesel or Petrol Surfs?

Yeah, I know of the problems with the 2.4 TD engines and cracking heads.

Was thinking more of the newer engines in the second and third generations. Such as the 3.0 L V6 and the 3.0 L turbodiesel.

Which lasts longer Diesel or Petrol Surfs?

Just been having a discussion and was wondering, do Petrol or Diesel engine Surfs have the longer life expectancy?

I always thought diesel engines were longer lasting on average.

Re: cc rating for a 3L turbo diesel surf engine.

Thanks.
In reality I do not really care if its 3000 or 2982.... But thought there is a chance that the insurance company premium formula might charge more for a cc rating over 3000. So would be to good to list is at 2982.

cc rating for a 3L turbo diesel surf engine.

Does anyone know what the cc rating for the 1994 3L turbo diesel surfs are? I checked the listings on trademe and many claim it to be 3000CC but a few claim it to be 2982cc. I checked the information I got when I brought the the hand written parts have 3000cc but computer print out has it at 2982cc ...

Could also be a idea to promote this 'issue' on other forums which you use. It could be a issue for everyone who anyone who uses the outdoors, even walkers. To help prevent double-ups I have already 'submitted' or 'bumped' topics on this issue on the following forums. The more people that hear about ...

Re: Lock gates on public easement.

Thanks, I was not confident that Hori bay was a 'real road'. Just annoyed that it is the only 'acess' to the coast in that area. I might do a bit more research into the easement. Bartletts creek road is currently only closed during the week. As far as I know there is no locked gates or anything ...

Re: Lock gates on public easement.

I am not sure it is a 'public road', the sign which I found buried in the grass said there was a public access easement along the road. The 'road' I am mainly thinking about is called "Hori Bay Road", it goes from SH6 east of Nelson to the coast. If you have the time and if it not to much trouble ...

Lock gates on public easement.

A local "road" appear to be indefinitely 'closed' the reason given is that "logging contractors" are working in the area. Although the thing which annoys me is that they seem to keep the roads closed even when they are not working in the area. Mainly on weekends..... I understand that the logging ...

I have been doing the opposite, using soft/normal on road and changing it to hard for off road.... well did a bit of testing and could not tell the difference when off road. Would keep it on soft for offroad use now.

What do these buttons do?

There are a couple of buttons/switches in my Toyota surf and I am not 100% sure what they do. I have my theories but after facts. 1) There is a switch which has 'hard/normal' written on it. When I switch this a little green 'Hard' appears on the display with a little picture of what I think looks ...

Broken aerial - Best replacement.

My Toyota surf aerial recently broke off, due to be hit by to many branches. What would be the best thing to do with regards to replacing it. I often listen to the radio, but now it is mostly static. I would hate to put a new Toyota retractable aerial on just for it to get bent/broken again. Any ...

Hi, not entirely sure on which size I want. Partly because I do not know what size I can fit without a lift. I am really just after the tyres which would give the best compromise between on and off road use.

Tyres for a Surf, mainly for on road and river driving.

I am considering getting same larger tyres to put on my 94 Hilux surf, it is without a lift and everything else is fairly standard, due to a annoying warranty I can not life it currently. It is currently on wheels which I suspect are smaller then standard. I would like wheels which are good to use ...

True the boards do offer a bit of protect, but they still resist the flow of water during river crossings. Also by removing them it helps keep the girlfriend agile. I might replace them with rigid metal mesh which would be less of a barrier for the water, but still provides easy access for midgets ...

Brought myself a surf

Over the weekend I brought myself a toyota surf, at the moment it appears to be a fairly standard 1993 3L diesel surf. Given it a few basic test runs and played with it on a few beaches and across several rivers. Due to the warranty issues I would have to wait a while before modifying it in any ...

Question regarding engine change for early model Toyota surf

I have been thinking over options on buying a new Toyota Surf, I am considering buying a older model, maybe even a 60-series for the solid front axle (although I could quite happily live with IFS). Although I would like/been thinking about putting in a more powerful engine something like the (1KZ-TE ...

Good initial 4wd for around $3000 + other questions.

I am currently looking for a good 4wd, I mostly plan to take it up braided river beds with plenty of river crossings and along gravelly beaches, mostly to access fishing spots. Would take it into the mountains from time to time. I only want to spend around $3,000, (not including a extra $1000 or so ...
