Re: Ditching the 4JX1 for a 3.8 V6 Commonwhore setup...
The trick is to mate the isuzu transfer case to the holden transmission as the out put shaft is the same Thanks for that, I have heard that and since seen a few pictures of how it is done. My 3.8V6 has just fallen through, but my mate is giving me the 304 injected V8 and all the bits needed to get ...

Re: 1993 bighorn engine swap
Have you made any progress with your conversion yet? I'm about to start doing the same conversion but into a 98 bighorn that was running a 3.0 DOHC diesel. I have been reading the comments about transmissions/gearboxes with great interest because it would seem the transfer case from my Torque On ...

Ditching the 4JX1 for a 3.8 V6 Commonwhore setup...
I know I am not the first to put a 3.8 V6 engine out of a Commodore into an Isuzu Bighorn, so I'm hoping to find a guru or 2 who can give me all the information I need so I can successfully convert my lawn ornament into something a bit of fun with sufficient power to tow a trailer or get up a steep ...

Re: Wanting a Snorkel for my UBS55 Bighorn
Easy enough to modify one - I have one on one of my Pigs off a Nissan Terrano and I have one off a Hilux on my other pig. Are you handy with fabrication or know anyone who is?

Re: Rear Slip Yoke Bush Isuzu MU
my other option is to swap the transfer to a auto one the the flange output which will eliminate the slip yoke, has anyone seen this or done it?? Doing this would require changing your driveshaft to have some sort of movement in and out/back and forth to compensate the diff movements with the ...

Re: 2.8 diesel bighron towing
I've done a lot of towing with my Pighorns over the years - they tow just fine - I have towed a transporter designed for a 5 ton digger to Auckland, Wellington and most places in between to pick up vehicles (had about 10 UBS55s at home for parts at one stage) and I have never had a problem - as long ...
Re: hubs
You shouldn't have a problem using Mu hubs or rodeo ones - I used manual hubs off a Bighorn to convert my Mu to manual hubs, and sold a spare set to a mate who had a UBS69 with auto hubs who wanted to go manual and they went on without a problem. As for the 31s on my pig, I have had them on a few ...
Re: hubs
I would suspect there is something wrong with your hubs - I doubt it would be the transfer case as they can take a hell of a beating! The hubs hubs are not completely packed with grease but they are by no means dry - it will probably be a bit of a messy job! I had auto hubs on my mu when I got it, I ...

Re: Time to make the Mu a freak...
Sounds good mate, I will give you a text at a more socially acceptable hour to find out more - if I havent got my Mu going by then I'll drag out my white pig. It still knows how to stand up to a bit of a beating! But as long as my parts arrive sooner rather than later in the week I should be very ...

Re: Time to make the Mu a freak...
That was something else I was curious to see if anyone else had tried before I just blaze ahead: Does anyone know if the manual wind up window mechanisms from a UBS55 SWB Pighorn are easily adaptable to the UCS55 Mu? I am trying to eliminate electrical things like windows that are prone to failing ...

Re: Time to make the Mu a freak...
Excellent, this is all sounding very promising! Was having a chat to an older guy down at the river mouth today in a SWB Patrol who is in the HB 4x4 club - sounds like the sort of fun I am looking to have with my toys! I would really like to come along to one of your meetings at the Taradale RSA ...

Re: Time to make the Mu a freak...
Fantastic! that is good to hear that there are others out there who want to have fun in a truck that is not needed to drive to work the next day! I was quite disheartened when I was told I would have to have a rego and wof - I went to the trouble of converting it to manual, making an a-frame up for ...

Time to make the Mu a freak...
It has been a while since I have been on here - mostly due to work commitments and having little or no internet access... However, I now find myself with my weekends almost completely free from work again (until the end of the year and then its 7 days a week again ) Recently my Mu (its my off road ...

4JB1 Mu manual conversion
Having just spent too long in the shed converting my 93 mu river hack to manual, I have run into a problem with the inhibitor switch and not being able to start the truck up now the auto has gone... It is frustrating to say the least! I have even tried hooking the old auto shifters to the wiring to ...

With the aircon pump, does the pulley/idler on the other side (on the air filter side of the engine bay run anything but the aircon pipes running to the aircon radiator? Sorry I should have specified in my original post - the LWB has a 2.8 intercooled turbo as well, but it has very poor compression and one would be forgiven for calling the fire brigade to report a fire when it starts! I have never seen a vehicle smoke like that before! Basically Im hoping its a case ...

Engine swapping in a UBS55 Bighorn
Gidday, I recently swapped a diesel Camry for a 1990 LWB UBS55 Bighorn Irmscher S. It has an exceptionally straight tidy body and interior. I have a 1989 SWB Bighorn Irmscher S which has a great 2.8 in it but a shabby body - right hand chasis rail is 15mm shorter due to owning an Audi in the middle ...
