Re: Sunday 12th, Shooting Near lake Lyndon

Yes it was a bloody big gun. The dude made it himself. Weight was about 26kg, something you wouldnt exactly take hunting. lol. Was doing 1.5 inch groups at 2000m. .416 I think was the cal.

Re: Sunday 12th, Shooting Near lake Lyndon

Yes exactly. I have met guys up at this range shooting over a 2000m distance, not something that can be done in town. Most people that go to this area are there for the range, or hunting, so know of the potential dangers in the area. The fireing zone is actually well above ground level, which helps ...

Sunday 12th, Shooting Near lake Lyndon

Some people have shown some interest in the 'unofficial' rifle range Near Lake Lyndon This trip will show people where it is, and how to access it. Suitable for long and short range rifles, and also for weapons of mass destruction   A suitable 4x4 (basically as long as it IS a 4x4 ...

Re: Waimak + rifles

To get to the Lyndon range, head in past the lake. You'll get to a long flat the suddenly drops off to the right. As the road hooks back to the left there is a track (on the coleridge side of the stream). This leads you down into the 'river bed' of the valley. As you head up the valley there are som...

Re: Macauly Hut truck

Thanks for that, yes we are planning to take 2 trucks. One of the guys going had some issues coming back from the growler a few weeks back, he was certainly wishing there were two trucks that trip. We had previously done it a few weeks before that in a single vehicle, but the rivers had come up this...

This may not be in the right area, but I couldnt think of a better place to put it. A couple of mates and myself plan to head in here in the next few weeks. Can anyone please tell me the condition of the track? (I use the term track loosely) Its been many years since Ive been in there, and I cant re...

Re: Maxxis Bighorn 33's

So I bought me another set at $360 each a piece, fitted, balanced and on the vehicle. No special treatment, was a walk off the street price. Seems like everyone else must be making a killing on these as most places quoted me over 400 each. i got my 762 35's for 349 each Shit thats ok. I looked at 4...

Re: Cut Tyre

What does it matter if it leaves a horrid patch look on the outside of the tyre if its legal? Sure, might not look great (rotate tyre to the other side so its on the inside maybe) but atleast its cheaper than a new tyre, assuming it is infact legal, but if its not legal, a tyre place wont do it and ...

KZN130 Hilux hubs

A mate of mine has just bought a 94 surf. KZN 130. The front hubs are permanent hubs. Can these be changed to manual locking hubs? Is it as simple as pulling of the caps and fitting hubs? The reason we want to do this is to help prevent all that drag and extra wear through the front diff and transfe...

Re: Using a tube on a damaged tyre

The problem is if the patch rips off and exposes enough area for the tube to poke through. You say there is a patch on the inside as well, this should help prevent the tube being exposed, but I wouldnt like to count on it to be honest. Have you tried getting the tyre amalgamated? This I would trust ...

Maxxis Bighorn 33's

Hey guys, long time no see. Its about time that I replace my tyres as Im starting to do a bit more 4x4ing into the back country and my current tyres are getting low. Are Maxxis tyres still a good tyre to get? Ive had bighorns on my truck for a good few years now and they have lasted well. I see the ...

Easter Friday Amberly rocks bbq waipara night trip

As title says, 2 of us are planning an evening trip up the waipara. We are starting with a blast along the beach to Amberly rocks where we will park up in the sun somewhere for a bbq (byo food and cooker). As the sun sets we will head up the waipara to as far as the main road. Will LEAVE the peg ver...

Re: Safari GQ - switch?

Ive got the same switch in My saf, but its on the R/h side of column. Mine was (still is) connected to a relay box tucked under the top side of the front panel behind the left hand headlamp. It was connected to spots that were once attached to my bumper, but werent there after compliance.
