Just an addition the configuration I was thinking would be a flood type and a pencil beam (or 2 maybe). Not that I have seen it, but would be quite neat if the pencil beam was on a mount which allowed it to be swivelled manually ie as a spotlight so would need full rotation?

Which Spotlight

I have read the couple of threads on spotlights, but feel there are more questions still unanswered. I have been looking at the following Lights Gamma Xenon HID Work Lamp m Predator 4000 Driving Lamps m Lightforce 240HID m These seem to be about the best that are being offered currently on the ...

Al when is the training day - sounds very interesting? Thanks Mike they all sound excellent - been on DOC site but only could find out about Twizel ones - the Godley drive looked a goodey. I was planning on staying out in a tent actually - or hut if there is one on track. Seems I had better give DOC ...

Trip Timaru

Not sure if this is in right area but you guys certainly are the ones that know the tracks! Ok, own the truck, so want a track to go on. I see there are a few up Twizel way - any recommendations. Not an expert, and not overly confident in river crossings. Anything closer than Twizel? Thank you

Hey thanks for that. I certainly would plan on an engine swap eventually but not before that one dies. I am getting the feeling it is probably not going to be any more powerful than my 2.4L Turbo Diesel.

Do you have a snorkel, or is the cloth just added protection.

Cheers

Possible vehicle

What are people's thoughts on this please m What sort of power would a 2L petrol like this have? Diesel vs Petrol. I know all the costs etc associated with this comparison, but I don't know performance offroad. Torque is better in a diesel? And more torque is what we all aim for? River crossings are ...

Yes have $7000 max. Well if i spend it all on truck I won't be getting any mods for another couple of months - so pre done would be ideal. Tyres/rims are the only exception I can get them no problems. Just lift, whinch, snorkel etc.

Keep an eye out for me

Cheers

Thank you for all your thoughts. I was going to jump on it as it appeared to be the deal of the century, but it appears that may have just been me convincing myself of that fact. Will hold off and wait. Whatever it cost me it would be another $1000 say to get it down here (not quite but close enough ...

Uhh Patience. Yes it seems you guys agree with parents!!! Yes looked at that vehicle - and I agree its a "nicer" vehicle, but its Kms are huge. I would rather have a machine with a few more years in it than a fancier model. Accessories can come later. But in any case you all seem to be convincing me ...

Would anyone have any comments

Had some great answers in my last thread thankyou. Have basically been convinced a Safari LWB would be a good investment for what I want to do . Does anyone have any comments on this one please? Price, model etc m Seems like a pretty good buy - have to get it back to Timaru but it seems like a good ...

Obviously Toyotas marketing is much better than Nissans otherwise I wouldn't be programmed to think like this. The best truck will win - I looked at a cherokee for gods sake.

You know funnily enough I was sitting there watching TV, and thinking "What is the FlipSide". You know I came up with the same answer "Its a Nissan". Don't know why, just its a Nissan - I know Toyota so much better having owned 2, and seen mates drive Corollas exclusively - very reliable vehicles ...

Hey excellent thank you. Yes getting close to flipping coin on Safari and Landcruiser. Both are the equivlant tough workhorses. However from what people say about the suspension and that the Safari may have the edge. But I am sure there is a flip side - always always is

So DieselBoy you would say it is a good buy????? Of course I have to get it back to Timaru which I have to factor in, and should I really get one with the factory winch already installed - it is something I certainly will need or are the factory ones pretty past it by this age anyway? I will ask him ...

I ain't laughin!!!!

Would anyone care to comment on prices/availability on parts for brands

ie Landcruiser vs Safari

Toyota at a guess is the more popular, hence I would imagine slightly cheaper. Is this the case. I understand it depends on model, age etc but in general?

Yes I get the feeling you would probably want it on petrol for offroading, which does put me off somewhat as we are all too aware how much that costs now - oh despite the fact it went down a whopping 5c last night!!!
