Re: F/S Toyota Hilux Surf 1994
Would consider swaps for a cheap runabout, and really wanting to free up cash as I've got enough other vehicles if I pulled one out of storage and this is just ending up being used as my go-to-work transport. I have a tractor for around the property work. The auto is starting to get a bit lazy the o...

The drawers sort of "clip" shut and the slides have a little resistance so they don't slide freely. Im happy with it.

Surf exhaust tail pipe
Just the other day I was carting fire wood behind the Surf ('94 1KZ) and slid down a bank and jack-knifed the trailer hard against it. Every time I passed that bit I could feel the tyres slip a bit but eventually it happened. Basically only damage done was to the Surf's tail pipe and trailer's jocke...

Re: Tool Chests
My current one is a Kincrome have had it for 4years and I wouldn't get another. It has been well treated spent 95% of its life in the one place on my bench, the only time is isn't is if I take it work which is bugger all. Some of the spot welds that hold the draw fronts on have let go and the slide...

Tool Chests
I'm looking to get a tool chest and rollcab to get my tools in order and sort the workshop out (now that I finally own a property with a garage/workshop). I don't need anything too elaborate but don't want flimsy rubbish that seems to exist under about $500. I'm figuring between $500-$1000 I should ...

Re: Surf intermittant starting issue
Another update - the problem seems to be fixed. It hasn't faulted since soon after my last post. I had the immobilizer bypassed, and at the same time a loose wire was discovered up the back of the ignition. I'm not sure which of the two fixed the problem but those of you that suggested looking at th...

Re: Surf intermittant starting issue
An update: Just had the Surf in getting the powersteer gear worked on and asked the mechanics to check out the starting issue. They went through and checked all earths. Got it back from them a couple of weeks ago with no trouble and last night I had the starting issue again. So that eliminates the e...

Re: uniden handheld radio
Haven't tried a new battery pack but have swapped packs from functioning radios to the dud ones and the problem stays with te radio not the battery. They get locked in RX mode, seems like it might be due to a connection going dry or a component giving up.

Re: uniden handheld radio
I have exactly the same set with exactly the same problem - seems common with them, I googled and tried numerous things, it seems related to the squelch. Haven't heard of anyone have any decent fix without replacing parts, so seems best to replace radios.

When it happen's - are you getting the usual lights on the dash board before you try to engage the starter? Jay Yep, everything is just as you would expect except it doesn't do any starting. This is gonna sound really stupid & basic but check the connections to the battery. I had a similar prob...

Surf intermittant starting issue
Since about October last year my '94 Surf (1kz) has had a starting fault. Symptoms: Sometimes when I go to turn the key its totally dead, not a hint or any attempt to start, if I hold the key on there is a faint click about 2 seconds later like something electrical turning back off. It has never hap...

Re: 1KZ Whistle
An update here for those interested. (I always hate it when you have the same problem and no one ever completes the thread of what the solution was.) I didn't end up getting the time to remedy this myself and the vehicle needed to go in to get other things done so I got them to look at it. It proved...

1KZ Whistle
My '94 Surf has been steadily developing a whistle. It was quiet and only showed up from about 2500rpm, you could play with it cutting in and out with the revs. Now it is there at lower revs but louder the higher the revs. Quite noticeable from inside and outside the vehicle. When the engine is shut...

Re: 2002 Freelander any good?
Both experiences I have had with them have been negative. A neighbour owned one and had untold trouble with it - lots of different things, he later heard that his problems weren't isolated to his vehicle. The one day we had him on our property the clutch was burning out (it was pulling a weight but ...

We did this Sunday also. Nice trip!
Standard Terrano and Surf, all just 2wd. Just a flat tyre on the Terrano at the Molesworth end due to low tread and the sharp rocks.

There is a lot less water in the Makerikeri now than those photos show. Can I make suggestion - please take a chainsaw and clear the access along the main river flow rather than taking to the banks, flattening trees and bush as has been done recently. This river is literally over my back fence, its ...

We did Skippers and the Branches Dec 31/Jan1 - stayed in over night. We also did the Nevis and Poolburn to Onslow via the Serpentine. Will do Macetown some day. We got to the main middle river crossing in my Dad's RAV4 last year but the rain was coming down and river was rising and tracks getting sl...

Where in the line did they fit it? I suspect mine's got a similar problem, always takes a bit to get fuel up to start but i haven't found any air leak yet. The NRV might do the trick, know a good type and source?
