Re: hilux inner guard trimming

I have no photos but on my RN36 I cut the flat section out of the floor just in front of the body mount. Then cut a few slits in to the firewall (the bit that would be behind the accelerator pedal) pushed it back and welded it back together, adding some panel steel where needed. It's not uncommon to...

Re: Amada extreme 3" travel external bump stops

Don't know your numbers Big, but alot of the guys in the North Is found that 4" was too long. A lot are running the FOA 4" x 2.5" but are running them shorted to 2.5" or 3" of travel. Problem was the bumps being used to much and as such were over heating I think. Ie they wer...

Did it in my winch truck on 35" Simex (only 4wd I had) and went in with tow Subaru's. Wished I had taken my Corolla.
Actually I had a hell of a good time on the way out pretending to be BJ Baldwin.

Re: Thanks alot Bridgestone Firestone the Strand Auckland

My Jeep has different tyres front and rear. I have been disappointed with the front end traction on the Jeep on wet roads. Back end holds on ok (not amazing but ok), but seems to easy to make the front sledge. I assumed it was "a Jeep thing". After reading this thread I went out side to se...

Re: LN106 diff questions

V6 diff will bolt straight in. The V6 third housings are considered to be stronger, but you don't really hear of people breaking diff housings anyway. If you were were it std then the v6 diff internals are stronger than your ln diff. How ever a locker changes every thing (strengthwise). What kind of...

Re: wanted: argon bottle for mig

Put the .6 in bro. Makes a big difference. I am forever chasing holes with the .8 but can actually get a bead going with the .6 (that's with normal argo shield). Also I think the theory goes that you should be able to use less heat and get less warping with th .6.

Re: wanted: argon bottle for mig

They do an "argoshield light"as well Heath. I have not used it but apparently has less CO2 and therefore less penetration than the normal argoshield mix. Stops you from blowing through as easy. I assume you are running a lighter wire for your panel work?

Re: Tomsoffroad & Customs

I wondered several times if using prado knuckles and ln106 steering arms would've been easier. Then by setting up the tie rod and drag link like on a 60 series cruiser the tie rod would then be in front of the diff. Food for thought. At least that is an easy(ish) thing to change in the future if it...

Got a mate who wants a car looked over before buying. Any recommendations for a reliable honest garage for compression test and general look over?

Re: 1uz surf cooling issues

The above is all good advice in my experience. 1- Will making the radiator 15% smaller height-wise cause more issues? If you are cutting the radiator support panel why not select a shorter but wider radiator, such that you don't lose any surface area. Ideally gain some. Also you may be able to find ...

Re: certification 4" body lift 2" suspension

Generally speaking 2" is the max certable body lift but I believe that depends on how you have done it. Where you go depends on where you are. You are looking for a "low volume vehecle" certifier. I think there is a list of them somewhere on the NZTA website, but if you us where you a...

From what I can understand from your other thread you are doing these modifications to a 2WD ute, correct me if I'm wrong. I had a hilux one that I gained about 15-20mm of slip by only cutting the male spline.

Re: Land cruiser 70 drive shaft advice

I'd be looking for more than 5mm. Think of the bushes compressing when you run in to a verticle steep. (Assuming it's coil sprung?)

Can you just cut the spline a little shorter to gain some clearance?

Could be keen on the brake pedal assemble. Well really just the plastic bushes and steel sleeve that it all pivots on.

I guess just give me a shout if that's still there before you scrap it.

Slim chance I'm keen on the two good 31's as well.

Yep, good point.
I can't 100% guarantee they were exactly the same. We had just pumped them both up for tarmac travel and cant imagine we had much variation in pressure.
