Well, I'm more keen on a 4wd that hasn't been driven in NZ - in case it may have been thrashed. I'm guessing the japanese don't do off roading? Well, part of the problem is that here in Chch manual (sorry forgot to mention that) are hard to find in chch. There are plenty of automatics, at a slightly lower price. But I'm more keen on manual. So, obviously, what with the low supply of manual 4wds, the price tends to be a bit higher.
