Re: Compact 4x4's , Opinions and info wanted.

I have learned some pretty interesting stuff here chaps! Diesels seem to be far less sensitive to operating conditions regards consumption. I am not really afraid of the maintenance as I tend to look after my wagons anyway....it's cheaper in the long run . Now the next thing is affording something ...

Re: Compact 4x4's , Opinions and info wanted.

My understanding of the practicality of diesels in the larger applications, i.e. locomotives, ships etc , is due to the torque generated and the ability to use relatively un-refined fuel in the large volumes required. Huge petrol engines are noticeably absent from these operations. I know the ...

Re: Compact 4x4's , Opinions and info wanted.

If I was going to go diesel it would probably be a Nissan. I guess when you divde it, the road tax is a pittance. But I have heard a few horror stories about when it all goes wrong and I simply dont know a damn thig about diesels. A couple of the lads have Patrols , the non-turbo versions and swear ...

Re: Compact 4x4's , Opinions and info wanted.

Thats a neat looking truck Ineil and pretty close to the sort of thing I'm after. A modern 1.6 has serious nuts compared to earlier motors and that's what I was referring to when I said I was after modern technology.....later than 1980's anyway. I shall keep in mind what everyone says about the V6 ...

[quote="rangimotors"]yea the vitara sounds a good option, can i ask why you wouldn't go near the turbo diesel engines? i have only owned the toyota option (3.0 t/d) and i loved it.. but each to his own everyones needs and wants are different[/quote ) Rangimotors , I really don't want to go the ...

Re: Compact 4x4's , Opinions and info wanted.

Thanks for the replies so far chaps. I have actually owned 2 Nivas and they really are not that flash on-road as well as having 1950's technology. They go well in the sticks but getting there is a mission....I drove one non stop from Dunedin to North apart from the ferry crossing......my ears were ...

Compact 4x4's , Opinions and info wanted.

G'day! I am looking to buy a second 4x4 to use for trips and general running around as my LWB Pajero is usually loaded for work with a ton of tools. I am taking out a loan and can afford to spend somewhere between 6-10k but 8 is really what I want to spend as other things need financing too.. But I ...

I love shooting small things a long way off with big stuff. Started out with a heavy barrel 30/06 in the 70's with 130 Speer hp. Many hares and bunnies got the red mist. I also have a 308 Norma mag which blows things up nicely Kills deer just nicely too , with 165 gr Hornady's ending up just under ...

Dead right about optics Jafa. There is no way to make a reliable vari-power scope on the cheap. They will have backlash on the adjustments, point of impact shift on power change and shake apart under recoil. The Leupolds are great and generally deliver . Bushnell Elite 3200/ 4200 series are easily ...

Thanks Smokey. I have used my new strobe to set it up at 6 degrees and it seems happier. I finally found this setting on an engine spec website , but will still do the pinking test tomorrow. I had set it up by ear previously but suspect I might have retarded it too much so the strobe helps to remove ...

2.6 ignition timing

Just had some work done on my 87 Pajero 2.6 and they messed around with the ignition timing, and it has not run nicely since.
I have a strobe but don't know the recommended setting BTDC.

Can anyone give me this info please? I have looked for it on the internet but no joy.

I will often be alone , but have a remote for the winch. That anchor looks like the business and it might be a lot less dicking around to just buy one. Ground Anchors

Newbie questions #2... I am looking for a ground anchor and as I have some access to engineering gear , will probably end up fabricating it. Any suggestions as to a good all-rounder? Would a Danforth folding anchor be any use in mud and sand ? I have seen a design that looks a hell of lot like 3 ...

Thanks for the replies. I have done a bit of off-road over the years, but not in the same league as stuff seen on this site. G'day. First dumbass question as a newbie.... I did a bit of a site search but could not find the answer. I have a LWB Pajero and drive mainly on the road. I have recently bought an old Pajero , 1987, but it has only 145,000 k on it and is a real tight wagon. I'm the third owner and I bought it of a mate who has had it for years. It is Tectyl treated, has a Ramsey winch, dual batteries, Koni shocks and heavy-duty sway bars and drives nice. It has road ...
