Can i also ask, you mentioned servicing, i am gonna have a go at changing the oil and filters myself but i am unsure how to go about servicing a cooling system . Is this somethiing i could do myself? Despite wanting the terrano i've just brought a 1993 2.4 diesal Toyota Surf. It has done just under 300,000km which is alot i know but we got it at a good price and its in excellent condition. Yep I'm edging towards the terrano mainly because i'm looking for a lower price car and the older surfs seem to have problems with the heads if they haven't been looked after.

With my llimited mechanical ability i reckon a diesal terrano might be the go.
