Re: Home made Hydrogen generator for my Feroza

Hey guys thanks a lot - you saved me $1342 fitting costs plus $35 "servicing costs" every 3 months for one of those kits. $35 to add another litre of water?? Yeah right!! I was not gonna buy in. This one is officially busted! Re road tax on LPG - back a bit - yes there is about 5c plus GST. I could ...

Re: fuel for a fj 40

Like most posts above say... An old booklet I was going to chuck out at work says all 2F, FJ40, 45 and 55 from 1977 can use unleaded 91 octane. Pre 1977 - a Toyota bulletin I have a copy of says use 91 plus that valvemaster additive.

Lucky thing you got good neighbours!

Re: Aftermarket headlight options for BJ73?

Yeah well the P76 & rover do look alike, but I did the conversion that keeps the SU carbs, that uses inlet manifold spacers that push the carb tops, up that means I had to put a home made bulge in the bonnet, so it's kinda obvious

Re: Aftermarket headlight options for BJ73?

I have Hella semi sealed units in the old Rangie with some of those brighter standard halogen bulbs fitted. I forget which brand. They actually work better than some cheap 100W bulbs I ran for several years which the WOF guys never ever noticed. ( They never noticed the p76 motor either). So far I ...

Re: firestone atx

I have ATX23's on the old 73 Rangie, and don't have any problem on the Rimutaka hill in the wet unless I'm really pushing the limits, when the front goes wide, but it did that on the original Michelins and the BFG M/T's, so I think the RR just does that.... Painted lines don't seem to worry them ...

Re: Engine Oils etc etc etc

Nizsafari: A 15W-40 petrol oil could be very similar or even the same as a 15W-40 diesel oil. It all depends on the other specifications it meets. Check back to what specification oil your Nissan was meant to have when new, and try to get as close to it as possible. Match the viscosity, like SAE 15W ...

Re: HEI Conversion for P76 or Rover V8

The HEI finally works.... After all the "experts" failed, I posted here & on another forum, and got a clue from the other post which tied in with some other info I found by googling. So I replaced the pickup coil that triggers the module and it now works just fine. It's been in for two weeks now ...

Re: just bought a landy

Just don't use first until you get your back sorted. Start in second unless it's uphill, when you use second in low range & change to hi range as soon as you are rolling enough to keep moving. It will clunk a bit on the change but be OK & you have to rebuild or replace the tranny anyway... Check ...

Re: Series 1 front leaf springs

I might have a usable pair in the rusty old heap under the tree... LWB107 if it matters & i think it does if you are after pre 1954

I'll check & post again.

The buggers can get you on black plates... uphill into the morning sun seems to work :x

But I think I also have got away with many , especially at night.

Hi Hugo

I had to get mine from Maxidrive in Queensland. Cost about $900 all up...

I could not find anyone local.

Cheers

Thanks for your comments Sadam_Husain. I was wondering if I should have bought new from the start. Easy to be wise after the event. But, from what I know now I'm not sure if I would even try a new HEI. The trip to Christchurch was a bit of a waste of time, as it has only confirmed that this HEI ...

Now the HEI has gone off to Christchurch to somebody who can check the profile of the module to see why it behaves so strangely....

Meanwhile I'm looking at diesel Patrols & Prados on Trademe.. I've about had enough of all this

Thanks Rangielux. The feed was the first thing suggested, so I rewired out to the dizzy just in case. No difference. The coil has been checked & is said to be fine. It looks near new as well. Anyway, since the last update, it's been to the garage, and after a lot of experimenting, it can now be ...

Here's the story of an HEI conversion that did not work - or has not yet, just so anyone thinking about this will know of the down side. Encouraged by this post, and other Rangie owners I've met, I bought a second hand Chev HEI & had the base mount modified to fit into the engine. The Chev base is ...
