Mild 4wder needs suspension fix/upgrade.

I need new suspension but I'm not that hard out off road and although I've found heaps of info on 50mm lifts etc I've also seen people say don't lift any higher than you need to, and I dont think I need a 50mm lift... or do it? Firstly, just about little bit about my situation then a couple ...

Steering Damper R&R?

Gidday guys,

I'm no mechanic although fairly mechanically minded, just thought I'd ask if replacing a steering damper is as easy as just removing and replacing....? Will it effect anything else like alignment etc?

Cheers for any wisdom

A new seal is of course the best solution, but I haven't any way of getting hold of one today. I've gone the half-arsed cardboard route as I thought silicon wouldn't hold up to heat. I've only ever used silicon for waterproofing in marine enviroments so I'm not really up with it. Thames is my ...

3Y Thermostat

Flagged work today and just spend some time on the hilux. I'm only a newbie so only did little stuff that nice and easy. Flushed the radiator, blablabla and found a small leak at the block, where the top hose attaches. I pulled the hose off and went to check the thermostat between that little elbow ...

Grease Nipples

Tried to grease my drive shaft today (ON THE TRUCK ) but it doesn't seem to let any grease in. The grease nipples where dirty as hell with caked up grease and I had to wird brush them and give them a good clean before I could get to em so they might be clogged up? They U joints all have old dirty ...

Well I finally made up a nice big square marine ply block for my stock bottle jack this morning. It's much closer to actually doing some lifting so its not maxed out and far far more stable to boot! Cheers for the idea guys, now I might as well go to work,,,, or maybe I'll flush my radiator instead.

Questions on jacks.

Had to change a flat today for the first time since buying the truck. I positioned the little bottle jack directly under the U bolt bracket for the springs and by the time the wheel was off the ground by about an 30mm the jack was maxed out.... this can't be normal can it? This was on pretty much ...

Yea stupid me:oops:
Turns out its a lot easier if you get gravity on your side and just tilt the truck a bit sideways, say by driving it up the side of the deck.

Cheers for the help, I would have got around to the smaller bottle eventually.... long week :P

Thats a big help thanks Steve ride 'comfort' (a relative term in a Hilux ) I REKON, but I'm sure getting the front off the bump stops will help too Are the flat top U bolts easy to come by or can you just make them? I've still got factory shocks (and everything for that matter) so a set all round ...

I'm in Whangamata and most of my mates around here are easy to get on board for a home brew or ten so might give it a bash with them. Only thing I'm worried about is getting half-way there and then having to stop to them sobber up. I've had a good look over that guys site and I'll flick him an email ...

Cheers.

New Leaf springs and shocks.

I need to replace my flattened out leaf springs on my 89 hiulx. While I'm at it I think I'll take replace the shocks too, seeing as how they've got 250,000k and 18 years under their belt If I buy a set would I be best to have the work done or give it a whack myself. I'm reasonably mechanically ...

That'd be wicked if I could get parts from people on here, not to many 4x4 parts here in whangamata. And the ol' truck could do with a few parts! Especially if I keep backing it into fences like I've just done how about joining some of us at Petes Place on 2/9??? Sounds like fun although my truck is ...

And another newbie

Gidday Guys, I'm Ryan and I'm pretty much a complete newbie to this 4x4 stuff. I bought my first 4WD a little over a year ago to allow me to drive off road to my favorite rock fishing spots. Problem now is, the drive to the fishing spot has become more fun than the fishing and all I wanna do is dive ...
