My experience is too many flat batts kill terrano alt. U can get better rectifeirs or rebuild yours. Also u can fit a bosch external RE55 reg if u want. Only 2 wires and never fail. I would leave the rectifier in the alt as it is fan cooled. After fitting many new units I have never had any returns ...

Well its been a while but used to adjust them to get betted gear change on autos. U can adjust on pump if u cant get enough travel when tps is twisted to get idle voltage. Im not sure on this manual safari but maybe it controls diesel govenor on pump??? Thats seems logical if its causing black smoke.

What year is your safari? A tps has a ground wire and a feed wire (norm 5volts on 12v vehicle). The third wire is output. At idle output approx 0.7v and as accelerator pedal depressed voltage rises smothly to 5v. Can check with voltmeter and key on engine off.

Terranos ar bad for overheating, replace waterpump if not already done, reemove radiator and have professionally cleaned ie tank removed and rodded. Also fit a tranny cooler if its auto. I ran my 1990 on 10psi no probs, adjust fel to suit.

Ive been thinkn, difficult I know, but that plug has been burnt on the HT connection only on that cylinder, BAD plug? Maybe more than that, what is happening in that cylinder to cause that, maybe lean mixture needing higher voltage to fire. This can be due to a partially blocked injector.

With waste spark if u disconnect plug lead while running u effectivly drop 2 cylinders, so can be a bit difficult to use this method.

I jst remembered I also have very small 235/75/15 tyres. I am putting 32/12.5/15 on soon so will c how this affects. Now this all gets a bit confusing when factory spec 265/70/15 tyres and you get circumference differences so mileage is alwys going to change.

Well said. Another way to help remove carbon is to water into intake with engine runing, just hold revs up and dont use too much. Its alot like steam clean. Also look at the ens of coils where leads fit as these can rust/corrode/burn. Have a look inside and around lead ends, sumtimes they look a bit ...
