1. Whats the selwyn river one like?

2. Is that upstream or downstream from state highway 1? Done both ways, isnt really much of a challenge..

3. Avoca river is a long way from chch and is an overnight trip..

4. Is the track into the Townshend hut very challenging?

Are you chch based?

The plate and pins idea is a very good one, but how does it measure up against other anchors in relation to the amount of differant terrain you can use it? Would it work in shingle? I need something that can be used in river beds and mud and yea pretty much everywhere! Maby im dreaming...

Anyone made a ground anchor??

Has anyone made a ground anchor? If so, what did you use and how effective is it? Any diagrams will be very appreciated. (saves me of going through trial and error)

A folding plough type sounds like the ticket, but probably wouldnt be any good in shingle river beds??

If You are worried about the elcetric winchs, dont bother with them. I recommend getting a manual with a PTO winch, the nissan ones are f**king strong as and give little trouble with, the right sheer pin, compared to an electric winch. All in all, If you get a (good condition) manual safari that has ...
