HDJ81 auto gear selector shift lock malfunction
Hey guys, 1991 VX ltd HDJ81 auto trans requires manual override to move selector out of park. Started happening after driving on wet days and post puddle splashing. Brakes lights ok. Shift lock solenoid resistance ok. I'm thinking there's a loose connection from the trans selector switch. Any idea ...

HDJ81 24v starter issues
Has anyone had anything like this before. Replaced batteries and this started happening. Starter winds over flat out but won't crank engine on first turn of key, makes a good clunk when key is released and starter slows down (noise possibly due to engagement with ring gear). On second attempt at ...

Re: white smoke
Yeah a leaking injector or one thats stuck open will cause white smoke. The injector will leak into the cylinder and on the exhaust stroke pump the diesel into the exhaust manifold. Coolant entering the cylinders will cause white smoke or steam (this may also bend conrods if it gets bad enough). I ...

Re: TD27 EGR removal?
EGR shouldn't be causing black smoke under acceleration. EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) feeds a minimal amount of inert/burnt exhaust gas back into the incoming fresh air to lower the cylinder temp to reduce NOx emissions (the gas that makes smog). Black smoke is caused by incomplete combustion not ...

HDJ81 Blown brake hose
Took the 80 to get a wof this morning and it blew the front right brake hose on the rolling road. Subsequently it failed. Rang around to get a replacement and picked one up from B.N.T. Got it back home to the sticks, tried to fit it but the bastard won't thread on to the steel brake line. Thread ...

80 series 1HD-T exhaust manifold crack repairs
Found out why the cruiser was ticking. Have about a 40mm long crack on top of the exhaust manifold above the turbo (probably the hottest part I guess). Anyone had any experiance welding these things or have an idea of the price for a second hand one?
Cheers.

Gday, just got a Kawasaki quad. I'm picking it's a KLF300 but cant really tell due to the baked on mud and lack of decals. Can anyone tell me where I would find a VIN number or some sort of factory numbers stamped on the frame.

Post oil change ticking
G'day team, Just done oil and filters on my 80 series cruiser 1HDT and now theres a ticking noise. I had the big ends done at Pete Munro's 5000km ago, (so could probably eliminate that) I used Castrol Global Tection 15w-40 about 10L, and it's sitting bang on the full mark on the dipstick. Got the ...

Check the wires to make sure they are all insulated. If it keeps discharging chuck a multimeter on the battery and see what voltage comes up. When your truck is running what is the voltmeter on the dash showing?

From memory on mine the wire your looking for had a big sqaure connector from just off the battery, was about 3-4 inches long and had another big square connector going into the rest of the system. Was cheap enough to replace.

Pulled the alternator out today. One of the brushes was melted so put a new set in but it's still not charging. Going to get it bench tested tomorrow to see if it's the diode pack or the volt regulator. As far as I can see the rest of the wiring looks ok, but theres a bit more under the bonnet than ...

It seems weird that it's clapped out after I washed it down. My 70 series alternator gave me no trouble, and I had water up the windscreen several times stuck in various rivers with the engine running.

Bugger won't do that again. It dosen't seem to be charging. Normally it sits around 15v but now it's just over 12v. When the dash lights first came on it was only when you accelerated and on idle they would go off, but they're on all the time now. Anyone know the going rate for an 91 80 series ...

Help . vx cruiser alternator issues
Gave the engine a quick blast with the water blaster at work, then about 2 hours later the dash lights came on. I thought the belts might be slipping with them being wet but they seem ok. Then thought maybe a squirt of crc may do the trick but all that did was start smoking so the alternator must ...

80 series snorkels
Has anyone got some photos of their 80 series with an AIRFLOW snorkel on it. Had an airflow on the 70 series and it went ok. Thought about a TJM snorkel, was quoted $692+gst installed. I've seen some good looking steel ones , anyone got one?
