95 Safari 2.8td overheating on low RPM's
Hi folks. I'm hoping someone can suggest what I should be looking for... Over the weekend I went over the Uruwera on route 38, over Wakeremoana, etc. Had no problems going up, but on the way down towards Napier I found the heat needle starting to go up while coasting down hills. The moment the road ...

Auckland-Muriwai Rimmer Rd access dangerous?
Hello - over the weekend I witnessed a near-collision (head-on!) on the sand dune leading to the beach at Rimmer Rd. Congrats to the Hilux driver if you happen to be reading this. I'd be interested in your thoughts on how to keep safe there...? For those who haven't been there: the access path leads ...

Muriwai beach access
Also, thought I'd have a crack at Muriwai but I'm a proper newbie (never driven on a beach before). How suitable would Muriwai be for a complete beginner? I've been told that Muriwai proper, i.e. the 4wd entry north of the main beach, is fine for entry (I've done that with no problems whatsoever ...

Re: Protecting undercarriage for beach driving?
You need to spend a couple of hours cleaning and make sure you get every nook and cranny, get right under it ( i put mine up on ramps) and be prepared to get very wet. FYI, the car wash in Kumeu has an undercarriage rinse lane - lots of waterjets you drive over and over, and over, and over. You ...

Protecting undercarriage for beach driving?
Is there anything I can do to help protect the undercarriage from sand/salt? (OTHER than not driving on the beach. thanks.
)
I've seen references to something called "fish oil" - it's a low-viscosity oil treatment that is supposed to help.
Any ideas? Recommendations?
Thanks!
J

Knob next to steering column on '95 Safari?
I'd appreciate it if any other Safari/Patrol owners could enlighten me: There is a knob next to the steering column that is labeled with a rather meaningless picture - it's a mechanical control that turns (or perhaps pulls?). On another Patrol I've seen the same knob labeled with the word "Lock ...

Not any more it seems. The closest they have is Pathfinder books...
Any other suggestions? If you think Repco still has it might you have a part number??
Thanks!

Re: Reliable Nissan Safari mechanic in Auckland?
So... no suggestions thus far...
Is that because everyone here does routine maintenance on their own?
Or because there are no good mechanics? Or because those who have one are just being protective??
So... anyone in greater Auckland you'd trust with your Nissan?
Thanks!

Perhaps a stupid question, but can you explain why this would be a good thing?
How about means of blocking access to the engine compartment - locking down the hood? Anyone using anything designed for that?
Cheers,

Theft prevention measures?
Hi, I'm a new owner of a '95 Safari. I'm debating how to make this car harder to steal - it is currently a stock-standard. I'm personally not a big fan of car alarms, and so my thinking at the moment is a hard-to-find kill switch and the club. I imagine that the combination would be as effective as ...

Umm, yeah, that would help. Central Akl, and for the time being, I'm looking at simply keeping it in good running order.
Thanks!
