Re: fj40 disc brake conversion help
for your brakes check out here (hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by posting a link to another forum): - good writeup with good photos – shows how much grinding is required m - here’s one that I started - shows my ignorance but has good replies, some pics etc., ... and explains / clarifies on the ...

Re: toyota 3b
*bump* Have been thinking along the same lines with my 3B ... keen to hear how you get on with this - the process and the end-result. Seem to recall quite a few write-ups at ih8mud.com using the Nissan Safari turbo and intercooler - apparently far better performance and reliability than the stock ...

Re: WTD: FJ40 / 60 front fine spline axles
yep - quite right: it's the CV's I need, not the axles (learning new stuff all the time ) What I've thrown on are a set of 60 hubs complete with the disk brakes. Hopefully this means that if I simply get a set of 60 series CV's then they should fit into the 60 hubs ok without any grinding ...

60 series hubs on a 40 series axle
I managed to score some FJ60 hubs complete with disc-brakes and am about to throw them on a '72 FJ40. Have never done this sort of thing before so am a bit clueless. But am told it's pretty simple so I'll just follow the trusty Haines manual. I was told that I'd need to replace my tie-rod ends. Is ...

wanted - 80 series with 4.2 litre HD-T engine
looking for a rolling chassis but will take the whole wagon if the price is right. If it has a manual 5-speed gearbox then even better ;o) Black leather seats would be too good to be true. As would a winch. Gonna use this as a donor for a project - so doesn't need to be in tidy condition, reg'd or ...

Re: can an FJ40 PTO be fitted to a VX LTD 80 series?
was hoping that using an existing PTO from an FJ40 sitting in the driveway would be easy and cheap enough. But it's sounding like that's not the case ... To be honest, it's not something I'm likely to need but just figured that while I'm butchering I might as well use as much as I can from the donor ...

which manual 'box for a 1HD-FT (turbo'd 4.2 litre diesel)?
thinking about grabbing one of these engines but don't want the automatic gearbox that goes with it - anybody know which manuals will work best with it?
Would be nice to be able to find a 5 speed ;o)
Will be going into another 80 series.

ok - been busy with the kids for a few days ... Good to hear some encouraging advice about just going the simple 'leave it as it is' route. Re: FJ40 Coil Suspension - how to?
Thanks to all - really do appreciate the open and honest advice. Rok - you ARE the wee red guy on my shoulder ... "go the FJZ40, go the FJZ40 ..." but I think you're right, DB's advice is the best fit for my wallet. Fakey - the Rover coils sounds cheap enough but I guess I need to do a bit more ...

Re: FJ40 Coil Suspension - how to?
hehe - yep - that FJZ40 is indeed a nice piece of kit. So, as you've all correctly pointed out: I don't have ANY fabrication skills. And I know that, as they say: I can do it well, I can do it cheap, I can do it quick ... ... pick any two. Not having the skills means it's either going to cost an arm ...

Re: FJ40 Coil Suspension - how to?
Chrome - I'll add that to my Santa List but I suspect I know the answer to that one! So it's sounding like the only option for modding the FJ40 wth coil-suspension (other than FJ60 / FJ80 axle swap or the 3 / 4 link suspension route) is the Rover approach which only gives an average on-road ...

Re: FJ40 Coil Suspension - how to?
thanks for the feedback chaps. Reason I'm sticking with the FJ40: ok, I'll be honest - they look far cooler than a Heep. And ... it's a 1972 - same year as me, so I'm hoping to prove that the year still has what it takes to compete with today's offerings! (Must surely be a mid-life crisis!!!) I've ...

FJ40 Coil Suspension - how to?
ok - so I've been looking into how to improve the on-road ride smoother (won't actually be doing much off-road driving other than forrest tracks when out mountain-biking or heading up the mountain with the snowboard). So far I've been advised not to bother with the FJ60 or FJ80 axle swap as it doesn ...

Congrats on the pending arrival ... but with a baby arriving on 12th May I'd suggest you get that truck painted asap - cos you ain't gonna have a cent left to do anything with from here onwards!
