Re: Converting a Disco 2 from 5-speed to Auto
I'm definitely happy with mine chipped as well... Its night and day difference to a factory engine. 2000RPM sounds like a much better spot to be biting... I'll definitely look that up. So, shopping list - D1 auto, D2 TD5 auto bellhousing, Ashcroft torque converter kit (looks like it will work with ...

Re: Converting a Disco 2 from 5-speed to Auto
I miss my old d2 ..... Anyway , I am a short ass and the best thing I did was space the gas pedal off the floor an extra inch . Mine was auto thou , but I found the gas pedalwas too low compared to the brake pedal . Oh and if you are going to chuck an auto in it go with the 4.6 torque converter . I ...

Re: Converting a Disco 2 from 5-speed to Auto
Hey Turoa, yeah I'm up to number 3 now... Not likely to go back to anything else until someone comes up with a vehicle as well appointed, capable and comfortable out of the box. I wish it was a little more reliable, but I've got a reasonable handle on what goes wrong with them now so I can fix most ...

Converting a Disco 2 from 5-speed to Auto
Long time no see... its gotten quiet in here... So everyone talks about swapping the other way and getting a 5-speed, but I've got the 'holy grail' 5-speed TD5... and quite like it - but its really a pain for my short-ass partner who can't reach the pedals  - so I'm going auto again. Has ...

Re: 12000lb Winch for sale...
The double-cardan end off a TD5 Disco series 2 auto (manuals and V8's are both different shafts apparently (and D1 shafts are completely different - no double-cardan at all) although I suspect that its only the length... and I only need the cardan joint so I could just pull that bit and the flange ...

WTB: front passenger seat (or just mechanism) LN61 surf
I need the rails and release mechanism for the front passenger seat in my uncle's surf, which now won't flip forward and slide. Could buy the whole seat if required.

weird.
Aren't these just a Mu with a funky body and a crap load of plastic?
Yes, but with the added disadvantage of a very thirsty and somewhat underperforming V6 motor, almost no rear vision and a very cramped drivers seat.

...snip... I also have a Nanocom Evo Diagnostic Computer for resetting any fault codes for the TD5 Discovery 2 if any members need to clear their fault codes or "3 amigos" without having to visit a dealer. Handy to know... does that allow you to do all the hydraulic bleeding (brakes, ACE, etc) as ...

Re: Needed - Front Driveshaft for a Disco 2 *sigh*
Sorry to push this thread in the wrong direction, but since I have been considering a Disco TD5 as a family bus, how typical is "typical"? do you get any warning? Is it a design weakness and is there a cure? Sorry for all the questions, I hope you do find a replacement. It happens on them quite a ...

It's a typical Disco 2 failure. I got lucky, most people who see this also see bits of their transmission lying on the ground beside it.

Personally I'd far rather have an untidy truck with good mechanicals than the other way around. Check the running costs on the petrol ones - they're not particularly economical... My Dad had a 2.8TD for years (He actually had a couple) and raved about them. His last one was still going strong at ...
