Re: dash top GPS - which one

So which model Garmin will record a track/path of where you have been? And how easy is it to create your own maps eg the trails around Extreme Park / Hansen's Farm or Woodhill Jeep Park? I currently have a Uniden GPS501 which is OK as a GPS only but it has no map function and it is next to ...

I know what you mean Dan. I went to Turners Damaged Vehicle Auctions last year with the intention to bid on a 99 Jimny. The photo they put on the net showed severe frontal damage but when I inspected it there was a lot the photos didn't show; - one front trailing arm broken & the other bent, - front ...

New Jimny parts wanted at reasonable prices

Can anybody recommend somewhere I can get some parts for my Jimny at realistic prices? I don't mind paying trade or even trade plus something reasonable but I am having an allergic reaction to paying full retail. Murphy's Law usually means that I will find out a couple of week later I could have got ...

Fair enough. I wonder if there is any requirement (or someone has set a legal precedent) for the insurance company to prove where the vehicle needed to have a certification when they reject a claim. is a 50mm body lift considered fitting 50mm blocks or is it 50mm over the hight of the standard blocks? 50mm in addition to the standard rubber blocks Also do you keep the rubber blocks under the body mount( I'm guessing it is to reduce vibrations) YES ... unless you want to solid mount the body ...

Nice....
A factory option on ‘93-97 Landcruiser FZJ-80's is a hi-pinion electric locking front differential.

how much do you think it would cost to lift? would want to fir 31s under it A set of new springs would set you back about $300 / $350 plus new shocks for another $300 / $400 (assuming it as still available). You might need to also do either a body lift or a virtual lift to get 31s under it and don ...

A few words instantly come to mind; Overpriced (it is a 94 import based on the mid 80s design SJ410/413) Gutless (660 or 700cc turbo... the NZ ones are 1300 and for off road they often have a Vitara 1600 transplant) Orphan (where are you going to get engine or gearbox parts?) That sounds right for Robinson Instruments.
I understand the way they usually do corrections is to cut the speedo cable and insert a gearbox that has been calibrated to correct the error.

Options are to pull the vit t/c and shorten the output shaft, seal the output end of the gearbox and custom connect it to the 413 t/case (preferred option IMHO) Option 2 is to retain the full Vit' assembly but that means you lose the option for lower gear-sets in hi-range. I'm not sure but I think ...

The Jimny one APPEARS to be 395mm U/J centre to centre. And since Vitara & Jimny power steering boxes are often used in SJ conversions I ass-u-me they are the same size splines. If you want more punch you can give it a 2" body lift and fit a SJ410 (2.55 or 3.05) or a rock-crawler 4.16 transfer box to give it a bit more power to turn bigger tyres. like this one perhaps?? m Yea, one of those... but they aren't quite a bolt in and require new mounts and some sort of speedo ...

I am definitely biased as I have a Jimny but I agree with Heath and coxsy's comments. One with a solid front axle (SJ, Sami, "Coily" or Jimny). And EFI would be nice (Vitara or Jimny). Before you make your final decision you might want to price up the more serious modifications that you will may want in the future. eg what is a spring lift or maybe a Detroit / E-Z locker diff worth? Or even can you get crawler gears for the transfer box? You might (I don't know for sure) find that ...
