Went onto the glow plug rail under the heater hoses , pulled out of the connector, all soldered in now so will not do that again.

Don't think so as it still starts and runs fine, maybe EGR.

Most likely the regulator is "smoked" if the light isn't working with the engine not running and the key on. Often the cause is the rectifying diodes have shorted stressing the regulator.
