Re: Bighorn suspension lift

The torsion bars are a big limitation and if you lift too high you keep breaking CVs because the angles get too extreme. A 40-50mm body lift would be cheaper then a suspension lift, then you can fit bigger tyres.

Thanks want to take the kids (3 & 5yrs) up for an overnighter in the bush, hoping for a hut, but DOC removes all the handy ones.

Re: North Range Road

can anyone reccommend anywhere in the tararua/manawatu thats a wee bit of a challenge? I think takapari road is one but not sure as to its open-ness (may need to contact doc?) Any other spots that people know of for a good "bush-bash" ? Takapiri road is open and available and DOC actually...

Tamaki River, Dannevirke

Has anyone been up Tamaki River recently, any access issues, locked gates etc? We were hoping to take the kids up to the Hut. Whats the track like, driveable for a single truck? Have front and rear winch and ground anchor.

Man that sucks, I'd have thought the area was pretty safe too. We watched your truck grow up, you built a one of a kind mean machine. Hopefully one of us on here will spot your tires.

Re: Super swampers

http://www.4wdbits.co.nz/ProductsList.aspx?CategoryID=22&selection=7 Thanks, we had checked out that site. I think the boggers will be too wide. Not sure whether the 2.8TD Mu will turn the 36s very well running Hilux/MU 4.56 diffs, or whether they will fit under the guards. Pretty sure 35s will...

Re: Roll cage pics please

Darinz thats exactly what our cert guy said. He said we can put a rollbar behind the back seat 100mm from seat-ceiling projection line, but cannot diagonal brace it. So it would fold up in a bad rollover. Can't cert any internal cage without removing the back seats and all exo's must be certed. But ...

Re: Super swampers

The driving we do is mostly clay hill climbs and bogs, some sidlings but very little gravel or rock. We drive a MU with the 2.8TD motor, so very little weight (about 1700kg) for bagging tires. I've heard the TSL & LTB swampers are softer compound and bag better then the ET2 Simex and Creepy craw...

Re: Super swampers

We have a MU with solid front. Have run the Simex Jungle trekkers in the past, they went well on our truck, but are pretty worn now and we want to upsize to 35inch. Why don't you like swampers, we like the look of the LTBs on the interco site, but have no experience with swampers.

Re: Roll cage pics please

Thats what we are thinking, the cert measurements are there for a reason right. Safety is the most important factor. Do you need cert for a exo, or is it like sidebars and roof racks?

Roll cage pics please

We want to fit a roll cage to our MU. We need to keep the back seats for the kids. It doesn't sound like we can fit an internal cage keeping the back seats and get it certified. Though I have heard they don't require certification if you don't change the factory seat belt mounts. Looking at the exo ...

Re: fitting 35z on bighorn

There are lots of different ways of doing a SAS on the Isuzu. Check out madterrano's write up on here. There are a few write ups on club isuzu also and lots of helpful people there. It was relatively easy with good advice and help. We did ours cheaply the whole SAS cost us less then an ARB locker, b...

Re: Cheap Air Lockers,, Ex China

Thats right it was a front ARB locker for our MU 4.56 ratio. Not sure how it happened, I wasn't there, but I'm guessing full power landing hard. Bit gutted as we were hoping to sell it and put some more $$$ into our SAS build. It will be binned now, unless anyone wants to take it away.

Reefton challenge tyre size limit

We currently have 33" simex jungle trekkers. They are all half worn except one, so we were going to get 3 new ones for Reefton. According to a website that sells them, they measure 34.2" does this mean we can't use them? How particular are they and what is a good tyre to use that physicall...

Mounting steering dampener

I've done some modifications to my Isuzu MU. I have a hilux front axle fitted and 60 series landcruiser steering arms. I am looking at mounting a steering dampener. I have two options of fitting the dampener. Is it best fitted as a hilux, from diff to steering arm, or like the landcruiser from steer...
