TD42 blow by
Guys just checking what blow by those of you with turboed td42s are getting. My breather hose is poking out a fair bit of fumes even at idle so I assume with plenty of boost its gonna be chuffing it out. Not ever had a comp test done but wondering what "normal" should be like and whether my comp ...

Finally fitted intercooler
Guys I finally got round to fitting my air to air intercooler and its worked out pretty well so thought I'd drop a post. Bought it a while ago. 300x300 top mount air to air. Made up some brackets and mounted it square over the rocker cover at the back and about an inch under the bonnet when shut ...

Re: Rear Crank seal Leaking
One other thing. If I replace the clutch what are people running behind their turbo TD42's? There are a bunch of heavy duty clutch kits on tm ranging from $359 to $550 all saying ok for the TD42T. Which ones are really Heavy Duty? I need to pull a heavy tandem kinda regularly so want something that ...

Re: Rear Crank seal Leaking
Hmm ok. Well I did wonder about the gearbox seal but they did that at the same time as the rear seal last time to be sure. The sealant on the bolts thing sounds like a maybe. Will get the shop to check but sounds like I'm up for a clutch as well as this one slipped under load about 4 weeks after ...

Rear Crank seal Leaking
Guys I had a leak in the rear crank seal meaning I had oil getting through to the flywheel. Picked it up and had the shop fix it. That was about 6 - 8 months ago. Today I thought I felt the clutch slipping under load so I'm under there and another drip of oil coming out of the gear box same place ...

Re: Turbo dump pipe size?
Came in the kit as the kit replaced the filter box etc and put it up in the front corner behind the left head light. Is a paper element cylinder type one. Have pulled that out though and tried the truck and it makes little difference.

Re: Turbo dump pipe size?
Turbo glide kit. says a/r 60 on the inlet side. Cast 90 degree flange off the back so I'm thinking inside diameter is probably smaller than 2.5. Not sure my trucks ever seen the redline mate. Boosts pretty well. Runs about 3lb cruising at 100k in fifth and boosts straight up to about 13lb if I floor ...

Re: Turbo dump pipe size?
Not fitted yet but is in the shed waiting for a weekend. Going air to air with a scoop. I'm thinking I'll do the exhaust then if its still not great I'll look at the injector pump. Thats still stock at present and I doubt its had a spanner on it except when I did a top seal.

Re: Turbo dump pipe size?
Also hows your power? I'm chasing some better performance? Have the turbo and just had the injectors done up but the truck just does not seem to be performing like I've heard others talk about. Added a 1/2 turn to the fuel screw and driving to keep EGT's under 550 or 600 sometimes but its still no ...

Re: Turbo dump pipe size?
So is the dump coming out the back of yours 3inch? Mines 2.5 at present so to change I think I actually need to change the exhaust flange on the turbo up to a 3 inch flange if necessary. Easier to just upsize the pipe after the exhaust flange on the turbo but don;t see the point if its still going ...

Guys I've got a T28 on my TD 42. Thinking about going to a 3 inch exhaust but interested if others running 3 inch exhausts have also changed up to a 3 inch dump pipe off the T28 turbo or have you just hooked the 3 inch up to a 2.5 dump?

Re: Towing with turbo kit
Mate I have turboed mine and have electric fans on a good standard radiator. Long pull up hill towing starts to get up there (and I mean 10 mins plus up the rimutaka's) with the fans on but typically outside of the hills I never use the fans at all. Bigger issue is egt's towing uphill so driving to ...

Re: my turbo fittment
Mate I had a bunch of studs on my head snapped off. Ended up pulling the head and did 4!! Easy outs did not work even with the head off. Found drilling till close to stud size then put a tap in there and start tapping if your holes centered after about 1 - 2 full turns the whole stud turned then ...

Re: Boost in a TD42
Mate I've got an 89 and run 14psi and for every day driving its fine. Pyro mounted in the manifold pre turbo gets to about 650. If you start to labour the engine (like high gear uphill) your temps will go up quick so avoid that if you don't have a pryo. Higher revs are better. Going to intercool to ...

Re: Swivel hub kit prt numbers
Hmm will check mate. Got mine as a seal kit and also did king pin bearings etc. From memory the kit was around $300 but that was nearly cheaper than buying axle seals on their own (about 90 each or something terrible) and you get those seals as well. Got the kit through BNT automotive.

Re: Water in the engine

Is running as smooth as ever and driving and pulling much better (think those injectors needed the clean up)...BUT...there ...

Water in the engine
Ok so quick confession. I ended up having to pull the head on my TD42. Long story re head studs etc but anyway. Drained water, detached everything, loosened head studs and noticed water running out the back of the head....DOH!! . Got head off and last of head water had run into rear cylinders ...

Ahh right good info. Thanks. Yes replaced the ones I could A year ago when fitting the turbo but the snapped ones I just could not get to so thought I'd pack in maniseal and see how long it lasted.

Hmm tempting. Guess the trick is don;t weld nut and stud to head
. Might just have a go as need to strip turbo etc off anyway so worth a shot. Cheers.

Re: Should I pull the head?
Hmm ok thanks guys. Yes they are flush and at the back of the head. In fact the very back two holding the rear of the manifold is where its started leaking, plus the one in front of that and two others. When I fitted the turbo I tried to get at them with a drill but thought I was gonna probably do ...

Should I pull the head?
Hi guys. I've got a TD42 with some snapped exhaust head studs right at the back about 4 have gone. Now got an exhaust manifold leak where the studs are missing plus its turbod and I've got what appears to be an inlet leak plus don;t know when the injectors were done last (near 300k). So thinking ...

Guys I've got some exhaust manifold head studs on a TD42 snapped off and the manifold is starting to leak. Had the warrant guys tell me its really a warrant issue so should consider doing them. While it was'nt leaking I was'nt "considering" doing them . Looks like I'll have to now. Whats the easiest ...

Yeah I had the same issue. Hooked the new CD to the power for the old radio and it went but you could barely hear it. Thought the speakers or player was poked but put an 8amp dedictaed reducer in and it was fine.

ooh yeah any pics and ideas would be cool. Have a paranoia about W2A around the risk of one day the thing springing a leak and getting water in the intake but otherwise think its probably an efficient option for 4wd use as is all top mount.

I'm doing a water to air. Have most of the bits with a legacy radiator and pump, water to air cooler and just need the fan for the water radiator for slow speed stuff. Am going to mount the water radiator attached under bonnet with a scoop and fan then mount the cooler over top of the rocker cover ...
