Re: Modified 4WD Insurance 2019

I have the Defender 110 insured with Barley/Rothbury. Started with them after they agreed to insure it when we took it to Australia and have stuck with them. Windscreen cover, and all mods and accessories covered at an agreed value. Covered off-road (not competition) and recovery is from a point acc...

Re: Importing a defender from the UK

Lots seem to come in from Aus, better climate so very minimal rust issues.

I would want to personally inspect one from the UK, do you have family that can??

Lake Coleridge & Wilberforce River

We are heading down Sth to escape the Nth Is madness over the xmas period. You sort of get forced to go away at that time of year, with work closed and all the public holidays making the best used of your A/L  Among other things, I want to head into Lake Coleridge and then up the Wilberforce r...

Be scary in the back there with out any windows!!!! Re: Cracked head chinese or gen

Mine was a Chinese head supplied by a reputable cylinder head shop in Hamilton, and the fitted all my genuine Toyota parts (valves, camshaft etc) to the head. I reckon that's a good option, better than a Chinese head with all the cheapi Chinese valve gear in it☝️ Done over 10,000km so far so good :)

Re: QD32 possible to do bearings without removing motor?

What grade oil are you running?? The reason it's quick when warm is that oil is thin so it's easy to pump around and up to pressure. Normally bottom end wear shows itself as low oil pressure in hot idle, as in the oil pressure lights comes on or flickers. Diesels suffer from oil thickening due to th...

Re: Cracked head chinese or gen

I just got an aftermarket head fitted with my original cam/valves etc and was happily working away fitting stuff to it on the bench before putting it on the block and spotted this. Major kill joy. Just as well I was doing this work on the bench, not after I torqued it all up!!!! All 4 injector seats...

Re: D.B's Defender 110

Yeah, that's my point, even at high speed you can slap the CDL in if it looks like it might get slippery. All that matters is your wheels are straight and you don't have any wheel spin already happening. Each to their own. With a lockable centre diff I don't see the point in a torque biasing one. On...

Re: Nearly rolled Safari, driver's side, issues?

If your worried, which you shouldnt be as it's a TD42, you could pull the electrical plug off the fuel pump, then crank the engine until your oil pressure lights goes out. Then connect pump back up and you be confident you have oil and oil pressure when she fires up. The problem your referring to ab...

Hey guys, As kbushnz says find the actual cause first. Do a cooling system pressure test, and a TK style combustion gas test to identify what is actually happening first. Yeah, that's what concerns me with the testing. It might show up, it might not. Depends on where the crack is and how big. Its using water. Its not coming out of the rad, hose's or heater core. I've checked and checked. I've obviously got something minor going on with the head at the moment, its not...
