Re: Snorkel, bodylift 4 96 rangie

Hi Rich, I'm not aware of an off the shelf option for a snorkel for a P38A Range Rover, but someone might know of one?? Waterproofing could be quite a task with something like 6 computers on these models! I would imagine a body lift on a P38A would be a bit of a can of worms. Anything is possible ...

Re: lwb or swb rims - is there a difference ?

SWB rims are 5" wide, while LWB are 5.5". Defender (90 & 110) steel rims are also 5.5" & are actually the same as the Series LWB rims (post about 1968). A minor change of construction was made at one point from rivits to welds holding the centres to the rims. The Wolf or NATO rims are 6.5" wide as ...

Re: The 42nd Traverse

Has anyone been along the 42 Traverse lately?

I'll be down that way Monday so just wondering if it is suitable for a solo vehicle to drive at the moment?

Thanks

Thompsons Track - Te Aroha Side

Anyone been up the Te Aroha side of Thompsons Track recently?

Much mud around? Worth changing over to the mud tyres, or will all terrains will be more than adequate?

I didn't mean to imply that we should be trying to hide anything, just that we should be focusing on more responsible images rather than the ones showing great quantities of mud & destruction. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, "focus on the positive". I would also extend this to focusing ...

I would seriously doubt a Hiace would be any better at getting over the terrain any better than an L300, or any other 4WD van. None of the vans have much suspension articulation, so as soon as a track gets rough they will all be lifting a wheel or two. Most have an LSD in the rear to try & assist ...

If you take a dozen trucks on 35's through a muddy track even if you are all driving responsibly it ends up with ruts that will belly a truck on 33" I fully agree with this. While driver responsibility & caution can limit damage, tracks are always going to end up dug down to the largest common size ...

I'd advise them to get a Jap 4WD.

Don't know if I'd mount a 2kg extinguisher at head height...especially not into trim, even with a strip of metal behind it

Keep it down low & bolted to some bodywork, or similar, so it can't go anywhere in a crash.

A great location is on the rear door spare tyre carrier if you have one. It is nicely tucked out of the way between the tyre & the rear door, & pretty well protected. You can make a nice neat installation job of it if you plan it out before starting. Centre of a steel roof is theoretically the best ...

As mentioned, be careful about checker plate. Often used to hide a multitude of sins Having said that, the truck you linked to may be pretty rust-free. You'd have to have a look, or get someone who knows what to look for check it out for you. If it was me, I'd go for a nice standard truck & then add ...

For that budget, I'd be inclined to stick with something smaller with a petrol engine, like a Suzuki. There's a good chance a bigger truck, especially a diesel, for that kind of money is going to start costing money in the next little while & if you have a 6 cyl diesel, any problems with it will be ...

I'd be thinking pretty hard about what an extra $9K gets you before cashing out. Thats alot of coin for a very similar vehicle with what is just essentially a better marketing department behind it... Only downside I can see to the Triton is the hideous styling!! IMHO! Any other utes being considered ...

Think you'll find the T-Max winches are also manufactured in China...

Most 33x12.50R15 tyres have a recommended rim width range of 8.5 - 11.0".

Something to be aware of for insurance purposes if something should let go at any stage.

I would imagine that as long as the tree protector is rated high enough it shouldn't be a problem. The tree protector is only going to be subjected to the same load as your recovery hooks/points. With the snatch strap doing all the stretching. But thats a good point to raise! Hopefully someone ...

I have always used a bridle on the front for winching, towing or snatching, but then I have recovery rings/holes to accept a shackle on each one, so maybe you're thinkig of a difference using hooks instead?? Nice Discovery you've acquired there. Another option is to try & get a Jap import pintle. Not a true pintle because they don't swivel, but thats generally not an issue, especially not for recovery purposes. Not sure how you're planning on mounting it, but no doubt you have already, or will, figure ...

205/70R15 is a Suzuki SJ413/Sierra/Jimny size.

Too small for a Terrano.

As mentioned, there is a huge range of tyres (& prices) in the standard 235/75R15 size. My advice would be to stick to that.

The 3F has a capacity of 4 litres (3955cc from memory  ).

Also, the early petrol engined 80 series LandCruisers had the fuel injected 3F, the 3F-E.
