Whirinaki Forest 4wd area (near Minginui)

Hi all Not sure if people still use this forum (I remember it from way back) but this used to be a great 4wd spot. I have been twice some years ago (say 2015 and 2017 probably) and it was getting pretty overgrown in 2017 and also access had been 'made difficult' by the logging company (plantations i...

Re: What are your Views on the Isuzu Mu?

What else are you planning to do to it? It looks fairly kitted out. I have a 91 (2.8) on 33s, body lift, suspension lift, air locker rear, auto locker front, intercooler, 17psi boost, turned up fuel pump, removed muffler from exhaust. Broken one CV at the front so far. Snapped two rear body mount bo...

Re: Running a Diesel on Used Engine Oil.

I have a mate who has run his 2.8 bighorn on diesel/engine oil combo. Unfortunately he is not on this site. I cant remember the rations he uses, but he starts it on pure diesel, and switches on the fly to diesel/oil mix (two tanks obviously) once at highway speed. It smokes like a train and he has t...

Re: suspension bush replacement questions

Ok mine is leaf sprung rear and I rebushed all the ones in the shackles when I lifted it, I got a vibration which is definitely from the increased driveline angles - however only noticable upon acceleration. Both rear and front driveshafts havent lasted long before needing to be replaced (unis shat ...

Cleaning mud out of radiator fins

Hi guys My truck is tending to run a bit hot on the open road and I think it is due to all the mud inbetween the radiator fins. Hosing it out doesnt work as it is pretty much burnt on. I have tried mag wheel cleaner before washing it and that helped a little bit. I plan to remove it this weekend and...

Re: Alternator Pins (L and S)

Yeah it seems L is the light, S is the sense voltage (i.e battery +ve), then there is the fat cable which transfers the power. Is the casing of the alternator earthed by the fact it is screwed to the engine which is connected to the negative terminal? I only ask because there seems to be no terminal...

Alternator Pins (L and S)

Hi guys I am putting a second alternator on my truck in place of the AC pump, the standard one will just be for the vac pump. I have a couple of alternators and both have these L and S pins. Can someone tell me what they stand for? I guess one is for ground and the other maybe a dash light. First al...

Re: RHB5 turbo wanted

I dont know what model suby its off but its a VF10 turbo. A mate has one on his 2.8 and it boosts higher but takes more revs to get it up to full boost compared to the standard turbo, so id say part of it is bigger. It's a straight bolt up afaik. Also the intake is at a funny angle so needs modifyin...

Re: The 2.8 vs 3.1 Bighorn debate....

My old man bought the 2.8 I drive now in 94, and upgraded to the 3.1 6 years later, which we sold at 240km as it was shagged. The 2.8 still goes hard with 350km on it - never had the internals touched. Not as powerful but I always preferred the 2.8. You are right about the liners - I have talked to ...

Re: Bighorn suspension lift

Ive done a 40mm ish suspension lift 50mm body lift on a 87 LWB At the front you do a ball joint flip and then crank the torsions, but yeah you would not want to go too high as said above. However I think CV breakage has a lot to do with driving style from what I have heard. Mine hasnt taken too much...

Re: Diff ratios for Bighorn

I agree with mudgripz on the ratios, mines a 2.8 non widebody LWB and its 4.3 As far as cheapness goes, I bought a 2.8 rodeo LSD centre for $50 and paid an expert $200 to shim it up, a lot cheaper than a locker. Prob dont need to worry about changing ratios with 33s unless maybe you have an auto (4 ...

I have 340km untouched internals and just unplugged the crankcase breather from the air intake and vent it down near the chassis. Plugged the air intake side obviously. Works great only concern would be deep river crossings i guess

Would imagine a 75mm body lift is quite a bit more work than a 50mm lift :)
