The first time I did an oil change on my Prado, I put 4L in intially and the dip stick was still dry. I thought **** I forgot to put the sump plug back in, it turns out 7L is needed to bring it back to the full mark.

It's a 92 Prado, the contacts in the solinoid are on the way out, easy enough job once the starter is out but I'm not anywhere near ChCh at the moment. So the missus will have to take the bus to the leaky.

Thanks for those posts one and all, much appreciated.

There's room in front of the air-con condensor that could probably hold an oil cooler without to many dramas. Just to give you an idea, I towed a trailer up to monks spur with 700kgs in the back a few times. It didn't overheat but the temp gauge did go to half way. If I do the same run/weight with ...

Turn the hub lock switch off first then, screw the spring in so is fully compressed before you put the sliding sleeve back on. Make sure the sleeve is lined up properly with the hub body (there are 2 splines larger than the rest this must line up with the sleeve clips otherwise the sleeve won't ...

This is a pic of my 2LTE. The timing marks for the cam and fuel pump are opposite to those shown in the above pic :o

Here's a pic of a 2LTE, my guess is the timing mark on the cam should be of opposite direction to that of the fuel pump. Just a guess though.

Not sure if you can get that particular pump at Repco. I got my pump and oil from Supercheap. Gear oil is about $30 for 4L.

I have one of those pumps that fit onto any 4L bottle of gear oil. About ten bucks from SuperCheap. I leave the pump on the bottle between jobs to keep it clean. And like Supralux said it alot quicker when the oil is warm/thin. I just leave the oil in the sun or inside a warm engine bay with bonnet ...

If you can't see the t-case breather, just run your hand above the filler plug and then over the lip. You should be able to feel the little steel cap on the top.

Hey Bill I put in the diff breathers this afternoon with el cheapo inline filters at the ends. I tested the old breathers by blowing on the old hose, air came out no probs. But when I tried to suck the caps shut tight as a drum as I thought they would. Probably explans why water was sucked thru the ...

Have a look at the trans axle code on the ID plate. (R/H inner guard near the corner from memory)

The last four digits will tell you which ratio:

HG43 = 4.3

HG46 = 4.6

HG48 = 4.8

I'm guessing it would be 4.3 :wink:

Reversing not a prob, I've had lots of practice. Me and five Pathfinders and one Patrol once reversed from the Cascades to Bendethera in NSW(long story) . God bless our trip leader, that was one of the best overnight trips I've been on :lol:

The old Prado goes thru water 2ft deep no probs. I hate to risk it any deeper without a snorkel though. Sounds like a goer to me.

Thanks for the Info Fellas 8)

Macetown Info

Hi ya all.

I hoping to sneak in a trip to Macetown before Xmas. What are the track conditions like (mainly the 20-30 river crossing). I have 92 Prado no snorkel and this concerns me most.

Any other pointers/must see along the way tips appreciated :)

info on 92 Prado

Hi ya all. I saw a 92 Prado 3L turbo deisel the other day, was driving by and poped out for a quick look. I'm am keen to go back and take a closer look at it as I was running late on that day. Any known problems with these trucks I think the motor might be the same as the 3L Surf motor (not sure) Is ...
