Looking to go through at Labour Weekend and heard on the grapevine there was a large slip down.

Just to verify.....you say you lost H2. Is the vehicle part time 4WD with free wheeling hubs on the front?

I've got the whole donor vehicle here and it was driving OK on the road with the diffs the way they were. I've already fitted the 4.1 into the carrier and it setup with preload and backlash ok. Ready to jump back into the hole tomorrow night.

Got a pair of diffs from a '96 HDJ81 with the factory electric lockers but the alloy locking motors were badly corroded, and I didn't want to pull all the electrics out of donor vehicle, so I converted them to air cylinders, and put them into my '91 HDJ81. Alternators will survive a few dunkings, but its the mud that kills them, from memory your air intake is in the guard between the outer and the liner and draws air from behind the headlight. With those v6's one sniff of water and you'll bend a rod or 3, a gulp will destroy it!!!! Reroute the air ...

Been there, had the smokey on start up, fitted a new set of stem seals, improved it a LOT but didn't solve it completely
