The pcb for my gauge looked good to but I went over all the soldering anyway and it fixed it. That was 2 years ago now and no problems since. You will want a good soldering iron and a steady hand.

Pretty sure it will be 4 speed, and it sounds like fairly normal behaviour in my experience. None of mine have wasted any time locking t/c once in 4th and they pull pretty well when they do, I always felt they cruised well. What size tires are you running?

It depends on the vehicle. Up to 8k for a good one, maybe a little more for something special. Cheaper always better of course, I am not afraid of a little rust etc as long as it is fundamentally sound and priced accordingly.
