33 on rim for 1doz
Anyone need a 33" mud tire on Toyota surf rim?
Has tread and would be good as a spare.
Cost is 1 dozen beers... Must be in green bottles and must be a minimum of 5% alcohol.
Pickup in Wellington.
Trying to put up pic via photobucket, but it says my pic is wider than 801 megapixels???

Re: Tyre Beads, a balanced approach
I thought I would give these a try as my simexes are getting a bit shaky... I have tubes and they won't fit through the valve holes... Arghhhh!!!!. The smallest ones will go in but when the larger ones go in they jam up in the valve stem. I take it tractor tubes have a way bigger valve stem ID ...

Re: Synthetic winch rope slipping
Above is close but not quite. You need to fix the end of the rope to the drum. It is not designed to take the load but by anchoring the rope and then adding a few wraps it will tigthen down on the drum, without it it will slip. I've ripped out one of those little anchor bolts before, the thread is ...

Re: Synthetic winch rope slipping
Went out and did some urban winching up a mega steep hill... No issues whatsoever, problem solved. The rope does not necessarily need to be bolted to the drum so long as there is enough friction between the rope and drum. The fixing point on my winch and many others is not solid enough to take full ...

Re: Synthetic winch rope slipping
That's pretty much what I did with the axe head in the bush. Got so,e funny looks swinging the axe at the winch yeah, I butchered mine in the privacy of my workshop. I figure it's better to directly rough up the drum rather than put grip tape or self amalgamating tape on it, these things just seem ...

Re: Synthetic winch rope slipping
Put my rope through the washing machine to make sure it had no soap residue that might be contributing to my issues. Then I wound it on to the drum under load, I could just manage to get the rope to slip with my full body weight hanging off it with the amount of rope on it in the picture below: http ...

Re: Synthetic winch rope slipping
shit mate slipping like that with almost a full drum wound on with tension is pretty much unheard of, if my ropes really badly caked in mud I'll fill the chillybin up with water and a bit of soap and give it a clean up but its never slipped after its had any soap through it what diameter is your ...

Re: Synthetic winch rope slipping
Did a bit of winching today and noticed that even with a couple of layers of rope wrapped around my winch drum, the rope would still slip on the drum under load. If your trying to winch with only a couple of layers left on the drum your rope's too short, go buy yourself a longer rope then you'll ...

Primo, cheers guys. I might start with roughing up the drum, and if that doesn't work I'll do the bolt in drum trick.

Re: Synthetic winch rope slipping
Haven't had that problem yet.... Either on the electric low mount or the PTO. However I have the ends attached to the drum... Electric uses an electrical terminal crimp (reduced the strands in the rope to get a smaller diameter) and attaches to the original WARN location. PTO uses the original ...

Synthetic winch rope slipping
Did a bit of winching today and noticed that even with a couple of layers of rope wrapped around my winch drum, the rope would still slip on the drum under load. I spooled it all out and wound it back on under load, but it still slips. The drum is quite smooth and slippery from the rope sliding ...

Toyota LSD/ non LSD comparability
Quick question hopefully someone can answer: I have a ln130 surf, it's got an LSD rear diff and a non LSD front (sassed) I'm thinking about putting an auto locker in the back, I understand that to do this I will need an open diff rather than an LSD. Will an open diff head bolt straight into the LSD ...

Re: Hilux wheel bearing destrution
Did you do a IFS hub swap as part of your SAS, pretty sure the IFS inner seal has a bigger ID than the Hilux seal. Cheers Tim Yeah I did do an ifs hub swap, and I am aware that there are 2 different size seals. Gonna pull them apart tonight and have a good look at them and try and nut out what's ...

Re: Hilux wheel bearing destrution
dumb question maybe but are you packing the wheelbearings with grease properly and not just shoving new bearings in? Is it happening to both sides or just one side and are you putting the truck into much water? Yup, have been packing them properly, and it happens more to the left side, which leads ...

Hilux wheel bearing destrution
My truck seems to be thrashing inner front wheel bearings quite regularly, when I pull them out, the outer bearings are mint and still greasy, but the inner bearings are bone dry and real pitted. I even had one totally collapse, luckily I was only doing 50k as it totally locked up the left front! I ...

Re: GT Radial Savero 33"s Or Maxxis Bighorn (old tread)
I have run saveros and bighorns on my surf, both were good, did notice that the saveros seemed to rip chunks off the tread a bit more than the bighorns, but never tore a sidewall on either.

Have a look at this Australian site: http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/
Has good maintenance advice etc. probably a good idea to overhaul your viscous fan and make sure your cooling system is all good. Trans tunnels on surfs do tend to get really warm, not much air circulation under there with the engine and other junk blocking it.

Re: Red Rocks - Wellington
So, as far as driving round red rocks is concerned, and sticking to formed tracks. Is it okay to drive on the sand below the high tide mark (so long as respect and right of way is given to walkers/fishermen etc) to me this seems like the best place to be,cause when the tide comes in all your tracks ...

Re: Death wobble!!!!!
Speaking of tires, when I did my sas my old tires were worn on a hard out angle from the camber of the ifs, when they were on the pretty much zero camber beam axle it drove real wiggly till I put them on the back.
