Re: Snow chains for front wheels on a 2006 Hilux

Finally settled on 15"x6" surf rims with 235/75/15 all terrain tires with an offset of 8. It allows 35mm clearance from the fender, and plenty of clearance from the steering arms.

Re: Lada - Padlock/padbolt to lock the doors

Hey you lot are so unkind to Ladas! I was mad enough to own a Lada Samar in the 90's, have to say it is the only car I fondly remember for all the faults and challenges it presented me with and I did not have to go 4wd to create them. No other car I have owned, can I joke or reminisce about, they ...

Howdy from Rock n Roll Central

Hello I'm a newbie located in Rangiora. Just bought a 2006 Hilux SR5 and keen to get out into the high country for a bit of R & R the scenery and natural history, not blood sweat and tears end of 4WD. Worked in forest industry for a few years so am not entirely green to 4WDing but am keen to keep ...

Re: Snow chains for front wheels on a 2006 Hilux

Hi Callum,

That is very useful info and greatly appreciated. Being a newbie I take it when you refer to lifting, you are adjusting the suspension?

Cheers
Clive

Re: Snow chains for front wheels on a 2006 Hilux

Yes the Hilux is the latest model. I can't believe that the tech at Toyota said it would be okay to use it in 4wd with chains on the back. Perhaps okay on the flat but I would not use it on hills. Maybe narrower wheels might work with giving better clearance? Wonder if these Michelin Composite snow ...

Re: Snow chains for front wheels on a 2006 Hilux

The chains are snowsweat and my wheels are 265-65-17 with all terrain tyres.

Re: Snow chains for front wheels on a 2006 Hilux

Changing the profile of the rims is something that had not occurred to me. I've got 17" tires on and could get 16" to get more clearance perhaps. I know if I replaced the front bumper with something like an ARB bull bar that would solve the chain on the tread coming close to the bumper. Thanks for ...

Re: Fitting recovery hooks to 2006 Hilux

The front tow hooks are welded onto the chassis, maybe they can be removed and the recovery hooks mounted in their place? As for the back, I was thinking along the lines you have recommended. Have looked at the Oz hilux site and yes there are some good articles, but thought it quicker to learn from ...

Snow chains for front wheels on a 2006 Hilux

Bought some diamond snow chains for my 2006 Hilux only to discover that they should not be fitted to the front wheels. The inner chain connection sits only a couple of mm from the steering rods and the chain on the tread sits close to the fender when the wheel is turned on a given angle. I don't ...

Fitting recovery hooks to 2006 Hilux

Hello, I've read plenty of info on the forum regarding where and how to fit recovery hooks to vehicles, but still have no idea where to exactly place them on my 2006 Hilux. Thought it would be quicker to ask if any of you have experience with fitting recovery hooks for snatch towing, on a 2005-2010 ...
