Re: fj40 temp gauge
Could it be that your old thermostat in your original engine was stuck open? The new one, in the new engine, is operating as it should?? Would'nt hurt to pop it out and check it

Bog on panels??
Hi guys,
Just wondering what you use as body filler for panel work.
Just normal builders bog or is there a specialist automotive body filler out there.
Cheers

Looks like its just a torn cv boot - however the clunks etc suggest the cv itself could be flogged. No biggie - just don't use 4wd till you have fixed it

Arc Welders??
Gidday, I was hoping some one could shed some light on small stick welders. is 100amp enough, or should I be looking at a 140amp one? Just wanting to do general bar work and tidying things up. Would be nice to weld quite thick steel up to 8mm. Not wanting to spend too much - will look at getting a ...

Re: Failed Warrant - rear brakes
Here are a couple of pics of the side which is testing weaker. Do these pads look like they are wearing as they should? Not a lot of the surface seem sot contact the drum. This was after i sanded the pads and used the brakes for a short burst http://i916.photobucket.com/albums/ad1/nick270/DSC_0120 ...

Re: Failed Warrant - rear brakes
Yea forgot to mention that I have scuffed the drums and pads up, then, swapped the drums over. I'm checking the brakes by putting the rear axle in the air and supporting it on jack stands, then putting it in low 1st and letting the wheels turn then apply the brakes. The left side is definitely ...

Re: Failed Warrant - rear brakes
One of the rear wheel cylinders was seized so I replaced it, then bled the system, and re adjusted both brakes up - It is still imbalanced. Both brakes are clean and there are no leaks from the wheel cylinders or axle seals. Wondering if it is now worth putting new pads on and machining the drums ...

Failed Warrant - rear brakes
I failed my warrant because the rear brakes are imbalanced. Do I need to bleed them or look at adjusting the rear shoes? Or are there other things to look at.

Hilux knuckle swivel seals leaking
Gidday, I replaced all of the seals on my ute around 2 years ago (20,000km travelled since then) and the seals are starting to leak again. Is this normal? When I did it, I replaced the king pin bearings, inner axle seal, and felt + rubber seals around the knuckle. http://img829.imageshack.us/img829 ...

Gidday,
I'm thinking of putting some old SAT tyres on my hilux. Just wondering if they wear really quickly on the seal and if they tend to let go in the wet?

Hilux indicators - a mind of their own
Gidday, I was driving into town tonight and my right indicator started flickering and pulsing on and off as though it was possessed. I wasn't indicating left or right at the time, it just started happening. I am assuming that the fact I smashed off the trailer plug connection, the other weekend, may ...

Re: Surf 1989 ln130 rev counter not working?
Cable has probably broken. Poke your head underneath on the driver's side and you will see where the cable goes into the gearbox. Just unscrew it and check to see whether it is broken or not.

Re: Buying a Hilux
I think there is some confusion here. The beam axle hilux with the 2L is a naturally aspirated 2.4 diesel. Like has already been said, Top Gear had a good attempt at killing it - worth a look on youtube. The 2L does not have the same issues as the 2LT or 2LT-e for cracking heads. 2L is a good engine ...

Wanted steel rims
Gidday,
I'm after a set of 4 steel rims either 15x7 or 15x8 for a beam axle hilux.
Offset -19 ish or similar I think.
I'm a poor student, so the cheaper the better
I'm in Dunedin

The factory rims have 6-JJx15 4.5 85/7 I measured the rim width and it was 7 inches.
Does this mean that they are 15x7??
