Yeah was hoping but then reality, the bank, parents and the girlfriend kicked in....

I'd really prefer to try and keep it all as one at the moment.

If I don' get much of a response I may start to sell some things seperately

It's not so much that the engine conversion can't be done, it's that I have a list of things I want to do to the 4x4 (when I get it) and I wanted the beam axle without having to do the SAS conversion. I have about 8K budgeted for this project (Doesn't include the engine and bellhousing which I ...

Sorry... Just to clarify.
The 5 door surfs you are talking about are they generally any year with beam axle?

So even though the 5m is petrol it is easier to fit to a diesel truck?
Will I need to replace the petrol tank going from diesel to petrol or can I just get it cleaned out?

Have 5m ehgine and w58 bellhousing - need advise

I just purchased a 5m engine and w58 bellhousing. Now I need to find something to put it in. I am looking for a hilux surf (not ute or dual cab) with live front axle. What year/specific models do I need to be looking for? I'll be picking everyones brains here til I get it done so I hope no one minds ...

7M-GTE Hilux Conversion

I am considering this... Is this a similar swap to the 5M? I know you will still need the w58 bellhousing. I did bid for a complete 5m engine with the w58 bellhousing but it never reached the reserve and I'm still waiting for the guy to give me a fixed price. http://bbs.off-road.com/ubbthreads ...

Winches and water crossings

Electric winches.... What happens to them in a deep water crossing?
I always thought electric appliance + water = bad. Like a toaster in the bathtub.

How do you get around this?

As far as I know as long as you can get a secure strong spot on the truck to jack from where it isn't likely to slip you should be fine. I've never used any special attachments. You may want to make a larger plate to put the foot on as it may dig into soft ground or mud.

Turfur style - like the black rat one you were talking about. This may give you an indication on their strength. My brother has a 1600kg black rat turfur which he used to winch a commodore with no wheels 20 feet on to a trailer. The car was flat on the grass when he did. And we have a video to prove ...
