Re: 96 Hilux starting problem.
Mine has the same problem intermittently, I carry a bit of galv pipe to give it a thump. and away I go. As it is an auto bump starting is not an option. I will be pulling it out again as the contacts and plunger are new along with the brushes. The only thing I can thing of is a dead spot on the arma...

As I have got a lot of useful information from here I decided to put some notes here for anybody attempting front caliper rebuild. Removal 1. oops :( nz am cbs were 26Mhz just to be different, and protect the local industry. You need the am aerial to match, along with matching second set to talk. The later cb,s as you have mentioned are uhf, which means it like trying to recieve FM radio on an old AM receiver. Some good radio techs may be...

Check your oil level, and make sure you have the right grade of oil.
The first number needs to be low for cold starting and the second number should be what is recommended for the engine for 1kz is 40.
The recommended is 15w-40 but if it is really cold you could go to 10w-40.

I have to question where are you getting your diesel as that is most likely the source of your problems.

I run my cooler in series after the trans and before the in radiator cooler. This is done for two reasons 1. so if the trans gets hot most of the heat is dropped before the radiator 2. if the oil out of the cooler is cold the water temp will help keep it warmer This has served me well including pass...

Hi, If it is an auto, make sure you minimise use of the overdrive in particular if there is any slight rise make sure it is off. I towed a caravan around the bottom of the south with kzn185 auto. Going up the Kilmog and up past the Roxbourgh dam I kept the to egt 650 max, and kept the revs up, mid o...

I had problems with mine - put new shocks all round, and that helped lots. The other big change was bumping rear tyre pressures to 40psi to stop the side wall flex.

one thing to check is the auto has a temperature sensor that will not allow over drive before it has warmed up.

Approx 400Kg. But get the biggest engine stand you can get as if you need to rotate the engine it can be very awkward and possibly get away from you, the cheaper stands tend to flex an make it even harder. Use an old flex plate from auto on where the engine bolts on then use the pinion from the star...

Hi,
Same issue checked every thing, just replaced the glow plugs in my 1KZ $33 ea from sca, no changes. Now busy saving coin to have the injectors done. If the injectors put in big drops instead of super fine mist it causes starting problems that look like glow plugs.

Hi,
The drag link from the steering box to the right hand front wheel, rear would be referring to rear ball joint at the wheel end.

do you have a restrictor in the line to the boost gauge? Mine is a piece of plastic in the line with a 0.5mm hole in the line right next to the manifold, made a huge difference.

Hi, have you tried getting power bleed from a brake place. If you have had the system apart it can be hard to get it properly bled, it sounds like you still have air in the system. if you can't get to a brake place You could try clamping the flex hoses to every wheel except the one you are bleeding,...

John, the oil sold was rated in cST, the BNT oil had no rating on it, and they couldn't tell me its rating either.
