For sale: D21 Terrano TD27T, Wellington

Hi all, Getting rid of my Terrano. Spent a few months ####### around with an auto tranny change, on the odd sunny afternoon, only to find out that something in the electrics is blowing a fuse/draining the battery. Either way, upgraded to a Wrangler, so has to go. I'm getting quotes from wreckers ...

Re: Best place to get u-joints?

Yeah, opinions change depending on who's serving on the far end, new staff coming in, old staff leaving, up sizing, down sizing, being bought out by conglomerates etc... I had a quick look around and have tried Quadratec alreay, I couldn't see obvious listings on summit/Rock auto, they seemed to ...

Best place to get u-joints?

After front u-joints for a TJ (front axles and front of drive shaft), along spicer quality. Anyone know of anywhere in NZ you can get them? Preferably Wellington area... Otherwise who's the best in the US to deal with from here? Have emailed quadratec for shipping quotes but they're taking a while ...

Re: New to Jeeps, what are they like to own?

So bit of an update... based on this thread and other research I found a nicely kitted out xj down south, with all the bells n whistles which I put in an offer and got accepted. Long story short he got a better offer the day before I was going to fly down, so went back on the hunt again. In the end ...

New to Jeeps, what are they like to own?

Hi, I'm upgrading from a D21 Terrano and thinking about an XJ Cherokee. Interested in knowing what they are like to own in NZ, being a yank vehicle. Are parts locally available in general, or is it a case of importing from overseas? What's the limit of locally available stuff (i.e. you can get a CV ...

Re: Removing Terrano flex plate from TC.. what's the trick?

So took the lower inspection/sandwich plate off, and as expected, can't get a socket and wrench between the sump and transmission, but looks like a shortened 3/8 socket would work, so worse comes to worse could try that. 2 14mm bolts and 2 10mm. Did a bit of lateral thinking and tried a million ...

Re: Removing Terrano flex plate from TC.. what's the trick?

@Crash, interesting, are you quoting directly? The manual I have only says "remove gusset securing engine to A/T assembly. (VG30E model only)" and doesn't mention a rear plate at all... But that diagram does look suspicious. I kinda assumed it was a cock-up/weird perspective, but seeing as you're ...

Re: Removing Terrano flex plate from TC.. what's the trick?

TD27T... ah yes, sandwich plate, that was the word I was trying to think of.... Yeah, that would be a winner if there weren't a huge oil sump extension in the way! there's about 15mm clearance between engine side of sw plate and the back of sump, so I think I'd have the same problem as I've got now ...

Removing Terrano flex plate from TC.. what's the trick?

Trying to get the flex plate off the torque converter through the starter motor hole as per factory manual instructions, and having a bit of a mission getting the bolts out. There isn't enough clearance (between flex surface and transmission gusset) to get a socket on the bolts, and the raised ...

Re: Strengthening RE4R01A auto tranny

Brilliant, thanks crash. I was planning on getting round to a lockup controller, and already have an external cooler lined up. Guess I'll just talk to the experts about refreshing the clutch packs then :)

Blake, it's in a D21 terrano, TD27T.

Strengthening RE4R01A auto tranny

Morning guys, I'm unexpectedly "upgrading" my tranny from a RE4R01A to another RE4R01A. While it's out and accessible it what's worthwhile replacing/upgrading? I'm already planning on seals and filter, and I'll speak to a tranny shop about the other consumables (clutch packs, filter, etc). There ...

Re: Plenty of oil... so why no gears?

My bad, rookie mistake eh. When I checked it non-running, the oil level was already over the max marker, put in another half litre then and still no good (that was Tuesday). Today, measured it with the engine running and it was below min, so put in the rest of the bottle (500ml more). Still no good ...

Re: Plenty of oil... so why no gears?

Hey guys, thanks for the quick replies! I'm pretty sure it's an tranny-internal problem (don't say that too loudly on a Friday night), so I'm probably going to do a bit more diagnostics tonight and then look around for remove/install and overhaul quotes, with the aim of replacing it second hand ...

Plenty of oil... so why no gears?

Hi guys, having trouble with my auto tranny in my WD21 Terrano. Simply put, it's not shifting into gear. I've checked the oil level, which was fine, topped it up anyway, and run through the self-test, which gave me a normal result (a long and then 10 shorts). It happened when I was in town, just ...

Matt, not going to get along to the one this month, too much on. Was thinking next month. You going to be along to that? Let me know if there's anything I should bring along, just got the single front pull point + rear tow mount (prob minus the ball), + newish AT tyres... presume that'll do for the ...

Re: Another Terrano in Welly...

Ner, no dampner at all Pete, no particular reason for 3" vs 2", just to get a bit more clearance with the tyres (although I should probably correct the offset on my spare rims first!). I do wonder about going 33" tyres, at times, and the old 3" body +3" susp = 33"... Pete, I know you've got a ...

Another Terrano in Welly...

G'day everyone, I'm Chris, in the Wellington region. Kept an eye on the forums for a while, thought I should introduce myself (feels a bit creepy just watching haha). I got a diesel Terrano (D21) originally to ferry people across for tramping and as a general hauler (I do some weekend wood working ...
