Hi Bruce Thanks for the comments re the truck, I spent christmas/NY tripping around the coromandel sleeping out of the back. Comfier and more versatile than a tent. The rack I got off (you guessed it) TM, paid about $280 IIRC. It was a steal since its specifically for a low-roof FJ62 so fits like a ...

I swapped it for another V8 4wd
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... d=87290033
Decided this would be easier to sell than the cruiser.
I swapped with a mate from school, he is gonna use it as a surf/mountain machine, he lives in nat park during the winter so should see some regular use.

Hi Worthog, I used a high rated pressure plate (PBT) and performance chevy disc. PBT clutches (ie repco clutches) are apparently super duty, the guy at clutch systems in christchurch tested the repco pressure plate on his machine and basically said he couldnt get any stronger, he then sold me an ...

Hi Pete I moved to Aucks last year and havent had a garage or parking space for it (on street parking only where I live). It therefore lives in my dads garage 2 hrs drive away in Waihi Beach, and thus other than a few big trips I havent been able to drive it often enough to justify keeping it. Its ...

Hey Dieselboy You can drive all the way to the Macauley Hut which is super lush. The better drive though (in my humble opinion) is up the Godley Valley. You can drive straight to the Red Stag Hut, but that is only half way up the valley (actually prolly a little more than half). The most difficult ...

Dear lord, your avitar makes me feel funny... Bill> We didnt hit up the Macauley hut this time, although the last time I was up there we did both. The Macauley hut is luxurious, but not as fun/long a drive in. Philux> It is on the fringe of Mt Cook National Park, a must do trip if you live in the SI ...

Hey sadam, check out this link:

The reason you use a pot instead of a resistor is so you can calibrate it with an aftermarket tach. In my case I used the real-time rpm readout from me laptop.

The reason I like the SOA idea is that its something that I can do by myself. I can follow 50 threads and tech articles on the net, buy the parts and come up with something that works well. I would much rather have coils all round on my truck but in the absence of having someone show me how to do it ...
