Re: petrol prado thoughts
I have a 3.4 swapped VZN130 Surf. Drives bloody well, tows happily the few times I've had something on the back. Worlds better than the 3.0 that it came with. But as above, drinks petrol like it's going out of fashion. I found I get way, way better mileage running it on 95 octane over 91 but I think ...

Re: Surf intermittant starting issue
My 5VZ Surf has the exact same issue. I'm about 95% sure it's the contacts in the solenoid, but if yours is an Auto the other thing worth checking is the park/neutral interlock switch on the gearbox, if it gets gunged up it stops the flow to your starter solenoid. EDIT: Interim fix is an old wheel ...

Any photo's? Can I ask which Parking building? I've had one of my cars taken from the Westpac stadium parking during business hours. Wanted: Diff for BJ60 Landcruiser
Mate just bought a '86 BJ60, front diff is completely shagged.
Ideally wanting a K085 LSD (I believe this is a rear diff? But he plans to make it work at the front) or a K082
In Wellington, cheers.

Re: Stolen significant Starlet rally car JQ5753 Royce Watson
Just to update, vehicle was recovered, stripped and in a very sad state from the sounds of things, apparently the butchers even tried to cut the cage out of it
Unsure if anyone was apprehended as a result.

I really want one of these beasty 11 seaters.
Pretty much anything 1990's
Any condition, I'd actual prefer one that needs a bit of work.
Anything out there?

Re: Help - TD27 not starting
Replaced the starter. Now it cranks real speedy, get puffs of white out the exhaust but it still won't start. There's definitely power to the glow rail but I strongly, strongly suspect that all 4 of the glow plugs are fucked because when I hot-wired the glow rail with a multimeter on the battery it ...

Re: Help - TD27 not starting
Mechanic mate came around, pulled the glow plugs, cranked it over a bit... diesel was pouring out the glow plug holes so I believe the fueling is sorted. We put a single glow plug back in and the starter could barely crank it over. Tried another battery, no bueno, noticed starter was getting REALLY ...

Re: Help - TD27 not starting
Check the glow plugs are working ? power to glow rail ? I'm about 99% sure they are - glow indicator is behaving like it normally would. Light on dash means nothing as it just says the relay is energizing and doesn't represent the actual glow plugs. will it start on Ether ? (engine start spray) Be ...

Re: Help - TD27 not starting
Bleed the injectors as well, just crack them a little and while cranking the motor over there should be fuel coming out... other than that, I would be blowing back down the fuel line to ensure that all the crap has been sent back to the tank. Reece Okie dokie, just bled 3 of the 4, as the #4 is a ...

Truck is a 1994 Mistral. Tank got run to allllmost empty, noticed it was really hard to start the one time I had to when it was almost empty... took it to BP, put $70 of diesel in it - still a bastard to start, drove it home, now it's sitting at the bottom of the driveway and refuses to start ...

Re: Thinking of towing with a 1KZTE?....Think again…
Just gonna throw it out there, as I come from a performance petrol engine background, but in that area really high EGT can mean you're leaning out. And lowering IAT usually has a pretty big effect on EGT, if you're spending a long time on relatively high boost (i.e. chugging up a hill) then an ...

Mine's 20 years old and still going strong... admittedly every 6 months I have to pull the interior switch apart and scuff up the contacts with some 400 grit, but other than that it works like a charm, touch wood. Unlike the 3.slow that was under the bonnet ;/

Re: new motor into 3y surf
I'm most of the way through putting a 5VZ-FE V6 in my VZN130 (3VZ-E) Surf and it was a REALLY easy swap and the truck goes bloody well now. Way, way better motor. But mine was easy because the 3VZ and 5VZ blocks are fundamentally identical, no idea about how compatible the bits that hang off the 3Y ...

Now I know Snap On is good but a half inch rattle gun doing 1000 ft lb ------ 1357 nm , we use inch drive ones at work and they would struggle to do that. nstacey, if you have got the socket use a power bar and a 1 meter length of pipe don't be silly but a good firm pressure ( as if you were doing ...

Re: Borrow in Wellington? Large torque wrench
Yep, about that Sadam. The manual specifies 490Nm or 362 ft/lb. It suggests two people may be required to torque it. Skid, is yours a 3/4 inch drive? All of the ones I've seen on Trademe that go that high are 3/4 inch. A little 1/2" Snap-on rattle gun will do the best part of 1000ft/lb... how ...

Ought to do an intro...
I'm Logan from Welly. Bought myself a 1992 Surf as a skifield road hack last year. My friend promptly blew the headgasket on the 3.slow V6 driving it to Ohakune so I've spent the last couple of months slowly doing a 3.4 5VZ-FE swap. I come from an IT background but have dabbled in 12v electronics ...

Want to Borrow, Wellington: 33s on rims that will fit a Surf
Bit of an odd request... I'm getting my Surf certed for a bunch of mods at the moment and it would be really really good if I could sneak it through on some 33's. Has anybody got a set, on rims that will fit a Surf, that I could borrow? Cash/beers your way of course. Alternatively, does anyone have ...

On a side note to this. It seems impossible to get third party with fire and theft if you have a modified vehicle. Tried to go through State and the max mods/vehicle market value is 15%; NAC don't even do third party fire and theft (who i'm currently with). Full insurance is ridiculous, something ...

A good alarm is 95% install, 5% alarm. No point having a top-of-the-line alarm when the brain is up in the kick panel and takes 3 seconds to get at. The longer it takes to install, the harder it'll be to bypass. If it's a high-risk vehicle, you'll want to get creative with the immobilisation ...

Wired up the solenoid for L4 and put raised the bumper to fit the body lift.
Now I think the front prop shaft is hitting the transfer shift linkage... as it goes NUGGA NUGGA NUGGA and the transfer shifter shakes a lot when moving in L4.
More dumb sh!t to fix
