Re: kzj 78 PTO drive
Hey kbush was hoping you'd pop up, how long did it take you to fit the gear? And I assume its just drain xfer case, remove rear half of case, remove snap ring/circlip, remove bearing (do you need a puller?), cut spacer down by x amount and then reassemble?
Thanks for all the help guys

Re: kzj 78 PTO drive
Awesome Derk cheers, I take it the spacer goes between the gear and the case on the shaft to stop the shaft/gear moving sideways?

Re: kzj 78 PTO drive
Cool ta, so I take it none of them came from the factory with the drive in there? How long does it take to throw one in? I assume its a transfer case off the gearbox and onto the workbench sort of a job?

kzj 78 PTO drive
Hi all,
This may be a dumb arse question but do the 78 Prado's come with a drive gear in the transfer case? I've bought a 70 series PTO winch and was wondering if there is one in there or if I'll have to retrofit something.
Cheers

Hey mate I've got the same bloody deadspot and can't figure it out, just thought I'd let you know to check how tight your kingpin studs are, over time they loosen and then you break a stud, happened to me last week so spent Friday in the rain rebuilding my right swivel hub. Run a 17mm spanner over t...

mechanic to rebuild front diff mid canterbury
Hi all, I'm looking for a reasonable mechanic in mid Canterbury to rebuild the swivel hubs in my kzj78. I have the rebuild kit but not the time to do the job, it failed a warrent on the right front hub being loose which was a snapped lower kingpin stud so that will need to be removed and replaced, I...

Hey mate, These vehicles are getting pretty long in the tooth these days and with the 2lt being like a hand grenade never knowing when its going to explode people aren't really prepared to pay big money for them. Most people will buy them with the intention of repowering them. If the interior is tid...

Hi all, Ever since I've had my Prado its always popped out of low 4, it happens under any load and also under deceleration, if I hold the lever in the low position it will stay in low but that's not always possible, any ideas what it could be? Has 2 inch body lift and I am yet to pull the gearbox su...

School me on KZJ78 Diffs
Hey all, Just chucked some 35s on the prado, look awesome but is pretty high geared now, are there any R&P's that fit these diffs (e.g. from a surf) so that I can change ratio, I think its 4.3 at the moment so wanting to go to either 4.5 or 4.8 And are there any lsd units that bolt into these di...

Just intercooled 1kz, now surging
Hi all, Just intercooled my 1kz using a prado setup, now I have a weird problem which I believe is my TPS, the truck will surge - by surge I mean it basically dies, engine light on, revs drop, it happens for about 1 second, but sometimes will do it 4 or 5 times in a row. Have tried setting TPS using...

1KZTE Advancing Timing
Hi there, I've heard from a few people that advancing the timing by 5degrees can really wake these engines up, I've just bought a factory prado intercooler setup to bolt onto my KZJ78, has a 2.5 inch exhaust and will be intercooled so thought it would be a good time to advance the timing if it is go...
