Having said that, others have said on here that turboed vehicles don't need spark arrestors. What is the informed reasoning behind this? I figure that the spark arrestor catches any sparks from the engine by very simply giving it something to hit to interfere with its path and therefore extinguish ...

Here's the piccies of one I made from a sheet of guaze/mesh....similar to what Lilpigzuk has alluded too.
