Re: Broken Birf?

Have you fitted the freewheel endcap correctly, little metal tabs on the slideing clutch lined up with the larger master groved splines in the main body? If not ,the clutch won't enguage. I know that the right freewheel is correct, but maybe the other side is installed incorrectly! Will check this ...

Re: Broken Birf?

This is what has me concerned... There's no nasty noises at all. Changed the diff oil a week back, and no major chunks of steel etc so I'm really at a loss. Will report back tonight!

Biggest concern is that there is no obvious sign as to why I have no drive to the axle. There's no odd noises etc. Am worried the ...

Re: Broken Birf?

This is with the hubs locked. Sorry Birfield joint. The c.v in the knuckle.

I thought the locking hub might be poked, but a threaded a 12mm bolt into the actual drive shaft, and still nothing.

Broken Birf?

Recently picked up an '88 BJ70. Runs great, but after noticing a slight knock coming from the front right, I jacked it up to find a slightly loose wheel bearing. No worries. Pulled the free wheel etc, found the lock nut, and main nut where finger tight at best. Pulled it all, re packed with grease ...

Re: you cant be flippin serious

Also just got an 88 BJ70 with the same problem. Only 140k's on mine. Test drove fine, but started grinding a bit into 2nd. Did an oil change, only to find the gearbox oil was low. It had all gone into the transfer case! Common problem from what I've read online? Anyway.... In getting the gearbox to ...
