Re: KZN185 transmission swap...
Cheers Blake, duly noted for future as I have a spare motor & trans now and intend to get another 185. I continued the flush avoiding park. Then, on reflection, I realised the hand brake was on so couldnt figure how it was spinning the output shaft to make the rattle of the pawl skipping the gears ...

Re: KZN185 transmission swap...
Installed The transmission with my old transfer case- All went fairly smoothly. Installed a new radiator & trans cooler (Davies Craig) Vehicle is on stands with wheels off the ground. I filled pan to max, then started her up and selected neutral to start pump, and proceeded to pump a liter of fluid ...

Re: KZN185 transmission swap...
Thanks. I couldn't hire one so made my own diy hoist inside the cab. Had to remove the sway bar, loosen the steering rack & move forward to get at the TC bolts. Then move back to drop the bell housing- kinda like threading a needle, but not too bad. Done & dusted save hooking up a few things. A good ...

Re: KZN185 transmission swap...
Yep. Destroyed the sponge getting it out.
Wow, four 17mm bolts holding a light gauge inspection plate on. Weird.
That only leave four holding the bell housing on.
Looks like a job requiring a little anesthetic removing/refitting the TC to flexiplate bolts.

KZN185 transmission swap...
My Trans has metal in the pan so decided to replace it with a good used. Expected to get at the torque converter to flywheel bolts through the starter aperture but no. Looks like the access is behind sponge rubber dust protection fitting? At back of sump. Do you have to drop the steering assembly to ...

Re: Thinking of towing with a 1KZTE?....Think again…
Pulled the current head & no visible cracks. Although presure test revealed it wouldn't hold pressure. One injector had a piss poor spray & leaked. Strange that this wasn't visible in the exhaust gas. I wonder if this was a contributing factor to the head failure as no overheat occurred. I think the ...
what engine gardian was it and where was the sensor placed?
Under a bolt to head on the water outlet to radiator. (Top hose) m
i suspect that temp gauge is to slow to react. bolt on sensor on the outside tend to be slow and more than likely read a bit low. sensor in the ...

Re: Thinking of towing with a 1KZTE?....Think again…
4. Bought a KZN185 @ 130000k's, fitted the guardian, 2.5" exhaust, well maintained. No overheating whilst I drove it. It is now spitting coolant from the balance reservoir, and bubbling like Rotorua. @ 180000K's. Try telling me that isn't a problem. Toyota you nearly made an awesome engine. what ...

Re: Thinking of towing with a 1KZTE?....Think again…
Toyota guages lie sometimes They will crack heads (later if cared for) drop a gear if crawling up a hill (over 2000rpm is good) 3inch exhaust on mine helps maybe fit an intercooler (so much difference in power) And pray often. I feel I have some experience in cooking 1kz-te's. 1. 1991 swapped out a ...
