VSR relay is the best option
Voltage Senative Relay, senses voltage of run batt whn changed VSR closes and changes back up batt
have fitted a number to boats and hose docters trucks and none had any problems

try your local car stereo installer for the screen mounted arials some even have boosters so signal is still strong or goto wreckers and look for a car (lexus,windom skyline, mitsi) where you cant see an aerial mast check in rear pillers for 1 or 2 little boxes that goto the wire on screen and ...

some cars do run though the light swiches

simple test turn lights on off and see if there is a clicking noise

common problem with all older toyotas is burnt out earth wire to combo switch giving poor headlights

the coils have oil in them to keep them cool, but they arnt filled to the max
so on side the coils inside arnt completely inclosed with oil

late model T coils dont matter

and furgus you are correct about a light bulb too

Am deffinately thinking about it for myself, just need to find a cap for the gearbox. And put on 1000km's or so between warrants so i don't get busted just unscrew from gearbox, pull centre out, store in garage and refit screw thingy on gearbox no dust mud can get in now cant stuff up anything ...
