Not too much damage, one broken window + CV on the70. The 40 did a CV ...

Re: Maratoto Loop

Some of the cuttings through the bogs are very narrow so if attempting it in a vehicle like a Nissan, then expect some serious panel damage. Summary; if you don't value the body work on your vehicle then it's a must do. Don't think it will matter which way you do it, the outcome will be the same. I ...

Cheers that's what I was thinking is the "defining" part of the loop, I'd rather go up the log than up that chasm mudslide full of rocks lol.

Appreciate the confirmation.

Hi All, Planning on going in to do the loop on 14th March and maybe overnight down near the stream / shack. Last time I was there was on quadbikes a few years ago and we went in a clockwise direction, I remember thinking that it would be hard yakka with my Safari. Can anyone with experience advise ...

Thanks all for your replies, that is good advice about the cable and I will google the part number and also approach Burnsco or similar marine shop. Thanks guys for your comments,

I'm going to have a set fitted this Saturday as been quoted a very good price which is the swaying factor.

I guess I'll find out how they perform and wear soon enough!

Cheers.

WANTED - Safari PTO bits

Hi I'm after a Safari PTO driveshaft and morse / actuator cable and lever for my Y60.

Also after a winch for the front either safari or landcruiser.

I've already got the PTO unit on the gearbox but nothing else...

Anything considered.

Has anyone got a set of the Federal Couriga MT's on their truck? I'm looking at a set of 33's for my safari. I've had a great run out of my Goodyear Wrangler MT's, must have done 50,000k's on them I reckon. Can anyone comment on how the Federals wear? Where I don't do a heck of a lot of road K's I ...

I once helped an old koozer that had taken his 2wd van and got stuck up near Ahipara.

When I snatched him out I couldn't resist giving him a good had yank to teach him a lesson but must have been a bit too ruthless as his bullbars came right off haha.

Re: First time welder purchase

Gasless are a complete waste of time in my opinion, I had one (French "GYS" brand not a superscheap special) and to be fair it was okay for doing panel steel and small stuff. You think they are cheap because you dont have the rental of bottles etc but as soon as you do any reasonable sized job eg ...

Re: only 10psi on a TD42

Get rid of the wastegate altogether, make sure its welded shut as it must be leaking if its not boosting. I had an adjustable external wastegate on mine and it wouldn't hold more than 10psi even when it was fully cranked up. Either that or your airfilter is blocked, try running no filter and taking ...

found the free spool lever was easier to set up for in cab release which was the main reason i changed. Re: Landcruiser pto winch on a safari

Thanks all that have replied, Sadam that was exactly the kind of info I was looking for. The main problem with the safari winches is certainly the alloy drum but I think I can conquer that by running the synthetic / dyneema type rope and perhaps running a narrow alloy fairlead so it doesn't load up ...

Hey has anyone put a landcruiser PTO winch on a safari? I have a Safari and its got the stock pto drive on it etc but no winch. I'm looking at putting a landcruiser winch on the front as I hear they are a bit more durable and they are certainly more common. A few Q's that hopefully someone can ...

Re: Hard on the gear

The longer the driveshaft the weaker they are, shorter driveshafts are stronger unless you happen to have a spring over axle conversion (like us) and then end up with extreme uni angles. We fixed that by running one of those 60 series double unis and have never twisted up a driveshaft or broken a ...

Re: Anyone have a slide hammer for borrowage - AKL

Use a piece of chain and attach it to two of the wheel studs with the wheelnuts.

Then get a sledge hammer and use it with the chain to pull the axle... or anything else heavy enough to gove it a good yank.

Bush mechanic styles but it works wonders, I dont even own a slide hammer...
