SO I've had a peek underneath, and as far as I can tell the noise is coming from somewhere in between the lower control arm, and where the curvey bit attached to the ball joint enters it.

Is there a rubber bush in here that might be pinched or old?

SWB Pajeros seem reasonably cheap- is there a reason? My experience with mitsis is they use alot of oil and crack heads at high temps... but that was a while ago that we had one in the family.

should of mentioned definately has to be manual . not too keen on mitsis but terranos seem to be all good. Need to find one that hasn't been thrashed (unreasonably ) is the hardest in this price range
