Getting the most out of a 2.8

Ive got a 2.8D ute with a few kms (300+) but it doesnt burn oil and goes just as well as ones with half the kms.

Is there much you can do to them (without turbo) to make them go a bit harder? and what it would cost - I'm guessing work on valves and fuel etc? It also has noisy tappets.

Gday everyone. I managed to roll my hilux (2.8D) onto its left hand side- managed to turn the engine off. Left it to sit for an hour or so after I got it upright, and checked that it turned over by turning the starter motor/belt and it started alright. It feels fine to drive, doesn't over heat, but ...

As mentioned the heads are main issues with those engines. You can get a super reliable 2.8 surf for around the same price as the 2.4 you're looking at, that would be my first pick.

It was done by a mechanic, no doubt I'll go back and ask if he did or not. Assumed he would have?

have a 2.8D ln106, recently had clutch done (less than 500km ago) but it feels like it slips a bit going up steep hills and on take off in first gear, wouldnt think it was clutch as all other gears are fine, even going up hills etc. thought it could be transmission itself. any ideas on what the ...
