Re: Terrano d21 auto transmission problem
I just recently changed my automatic transmission myself, as I was given advice from an Auto 'expert' that it was buggered. Anyway turns out, after I put the replacement one it same problem existed and that the actual problem was a blown Transmission Computer. So anyway, ive got a good Transmission ...

Re: Auto Trans Replacement Tips
Took it for a drive without the computer (manually changing between 1 and 2 ) and it runs mint! Hopefully ill put the new comp in and all will be well. I guess at the very least I got to change my rear main seal that was leaking a tiny bit and got a lower km gearbox. What a pain tho! Thanks everyone ...

Re: Auto Trans Replacement Tips
ok, found the Transmission control unit, its right behind the the driver side rear speaker. Very strange location. Anyway, I definetly think it could be the culprit, the box had visible corrosion in one corner, and one a few drops of water came out of that corner whilst I was undoing the case. Got a ...

Re: Auto Trans Replacement Tips
A couple of things. Do you know what model trans you have? L4N71B or RE4R01A (you can tell from the shape of your oil pan between the two) I have a good service manual for both and they discuss in detail how the electrics work, sensing and controlling the trans. Do you have a copy of this? It's ...

Re: Auto Trans Replacement Tips
That looks all good but there is no "power shift indicator lamp" on my dash so their way of diagnosing doesn't work. Is there still a way to get a fault code out of it? The truck in question is a 1992 terrano. I dont wanna accept that the trans I have put in has the exact same problem..

Re: Auto Trans Replacement Tips
So we finished off the install last night and suprise suprise, this gearbox has the EXACT same issues as the last. The Problem is that the transmission when in 'D' will only be in second gear, when accelerating away, it has some quite violent lurches. Once you get going, say over 40kmhs the problems ...

Re: Auto Trans Replacement Tips
So we got the transmission out this avo. It wasnt actually too bad, all the bolts came out easily and still shiny cadmium, the previous owner must have never been 4wding or to the beach, not a spec of rust anywhere! Putting it back might be the problem tho. I've got a few questions if anyone can ...

Re: Auto Trans Replacement Tips
Yeah true but how would you know if your torque converter was poked? The issues i'm having with the current transmission don't happen at all when its in reverse gear, would that prove the torque converter is sweet? Also, once I get it out, ill flush it out and see if any metal particles come out ...

Re: Auto Trans Replacement Tips
Thanks for your input. Picked up the Trans today, checked the colour of the oil and is as normal. We have no hoist, So will be doing it on Jack stands. Luckily I just did the Clutch in my Bro in laws 4x4 Rodeo so have a fair idea of how to manhandle the gearbox up. This thing looks even heavier tho ...

Auto Trans Replacement Tips
Hey there, My Auto Box decided to crap itself Friday, I took it down to Auckland Automatics this morning hoping it would be stuck in some sort of limp mode but the guy took it for a drive and then summed up that it was poked. Been looking around trademe and there's a few auto boxes that are pretty ...

Re: Cooling system staying pressurised
Pretty sure its blown headgasket, took it in to a radiator repair store to see if they could do a coolant pressure test. They just looked at it and said "thats far too much pressure to be in the cooling system, you should get a leak down test done" ( didnt even take the radiator cap off). Im gonna ...

Re: Cooling system staying pressurised
Pressurised. Hoses are pressurised before release of pressure by removing radiator cap. Im gonna take it to the radiator shop today, see if they can pressurise it and see if it drops pressure.

Re: Cooling system staying pressurised
No i mean, after correctly filling the radiator and overflow bottle a couple of days later the overflow bottle is fill to the brim and coolant is being dumped out the overfill tube on the overflow bottle. Also when cold the system is always still a bit pressurised? Ive tried two different radiator ...

Cooling system staying pressurised
Hey guys, just wondering if there is any other reason apart from a head gasket being blown for the cooling system to still be under pressure ( not a lot, but still under pressure ) in the morning? Also, it is losing a bit of water out the overflow bottle each day. Ive tried two different radiator ...

Re: Terrano d21 Not engaging gear? Auto trans problems..
I'd try tipping ball bearings down the auto dipstick tube, the smaller the better, a handfull should do it. If that does nothing, try sand Cheers for the help man! Nah I probably should have done a bit more searching, I was just in a rush as I had to drive the car to work the next day and i was ...

Terrano d21 Not engaging gear? Auto trans problems..
Hi guys, in a bit of a pickle. Last night went to take the terrano up the road and it wont engage gear? Not even at all, drive or reverse, its not stuck in neutral with the diff selector so Im really at a bit of a loss. Ive noticed that when you put the key to on, just before you crank the motor ...

Re: Terrano td27 turbo fails dramatically...
Hey, the pressure line (from the front) is clear, its the return line which is blocked. I see no reason why plumbing a new return line would be bad? Its really not economical for me to pull the engine atm

Re: Terrano td27 turbo fails dramatically...
So, I got the turbo in today... almost! Everything was going well until i went to put the outlet water pipe on and noticed it was blocked! Then i checked the flexi pipe that the went into and that was blocked also! Followed it right up to the block and everything was blocked, which means the turbo ...

Re: Terrano td27 turbo fails dramatically...
Received the turbo this morning, went to install it only to realise the mistral turbo has a wider oil feed line and a slightly larger oil return line. Aargh, why Is nothing easy? So niscars is sending the piping off the mistral up for tomorrow morning. Just hoping the oil feed line on the filter ...

Re: Terrano td27 turbo fails dramatically...
Bearing failed, causing blades to hit housing.. nothing went through it that I know of.
Decided to just do a compression check then whack another turbo on.
Anyway, does anyone have the fuses to pull when doing the compression check? My fuse diagram is in Japanese

Yeah I'm gonna weigh it up tomorrow. I drove maybe 10kms after initial noise albeit very slowly. Surely most pieces would have evacuated..

Re: Terrano td27 turbo fails dramatically...
Right, I understand. So you'd just pull the head and remove any debris?
What should I order if doing the head other than a gasket?
Cheers
