Re: CJ5 from the US coming to New Zealand..Good idea or Bad

Hey if you've never resided in NZ or have been out for a while you get a once only 'immigrant vehicle' import deal, avoids emissions, impact rules... You have to ship them when you immigrate to qualify, can't bring them in later. Start with 'factsheet 44a' on the NZTA website. m My wife & I ...

Re: J20 Rat Trap Starter

Yeah they're neat old machines. When I was a young tyke back in 1979 a fencing crew showed up in a brand new J20. When they left they had to pry me out of the front seat. Ahh the luxury compared to rattling around in the old farm Landrovers. Went to Aussie to make my fortune a decade later, mate ...

Re: J20 Rat Trap Starter

Err.. No. They sold SWB & LWB J20's RHD in NZ. Because there was no factory J20 short chassis the NZ ones were assembled on a J10 frame. Unlike other pickups SJ's don't have much difference between a 1/2 ton & 3/4 ton frame. Only 'factory' short J20's in the world AFAIK. This one was regd. new in NZ ...

Re: J20 Rat Trap Starter

Here's the inside. Actually had a cool dealer (I think) mounted package in there - a 'jeep' winch mounted on the steel deck plate below the rollbar & a snatch block clipped onto the upper or lower steel eyes depending on where you wanted the cable to run. Now I've looked at them closely it's ...

Re: J20 Rat Trap Starter

Here's the SWB one, a 1980 'Honcho' with the factory stripes, roll bar, spotlights, bullbar, spoked rims etc.. This package was big in the '70s. Imagine this on a beach.. and dudes with pornstar mostaches.. wearing plaid pants & polyester shirts, smoking camels.. talking to chicks wearing Daisy ...

Re: J20 Rat Trap Starter

Here's the LWB one - a '75. There's rust but it's mainly surface. The big place for rust in Jeep boxes is along the seam where the 2 part box sides join (who knows why Jeep made them that way.. all other pickups had 1 piece box sides & the replacement aftermarket Jeep box sides are 1 piece.) When ...

Re: J20 Rat Trap Starter

Hey Jay20, went down the back & got the old Jeeps out of the weeds. Not as good boxes on them as I remembered and they've gained a few dents from equipment scraping past. If your J20's a SWB it will measure about 3M (119") from the centre of the front hub to centre of the rear. LWB was just over 3 ...

Re: J20 Rat Trap Starter

Yep Kiwi is good. I've sent a couple things back with them for mates in NZ. These Jeeps are a long way from LA, likely only worth sending stuff down there if they're a shared load with someone - like loaded in the back of a pickup. It's sad but here old Jeeps end up in Pick n pull then the crusher ...

Re: J20 Rat Trap Starter

Hi Jay20 might be a bit late on this reply but.. Live in the Far North (well North of Kaitaia), have a couple of NZ J20's. Use them hard on the farm, they're solid old machines. Also spend 1/2 each year in Canada - where I am now. Have J10's & 20's here too. Have a couple spares in the yard with ...
